Following a recent thread regarding losing/misplaceing your keys before realising and thinking "doh", I was wondering how many of you have riden off without doing up your helmet and how long the longest ride has been.

Just come back from B&Q and was a little annoyed with myself to see I'd forgotten to do it up. I'm an idiot though so it's allowed.

I think that'd be if you forgot to put your helmet on Keith!

I've forgotten to do it up a couple of times, but always noticed about 10seconds after pulling away when the strap smacks me in the neck.

I have done it twice, once I rode for 2minutes and noticed right away but didn't get to stop as I was following some friends and they were on bikes as well. I tried to do it up when I stopped at the traffic light but it went green and it caused me to accelerate fast causing a wheelie. The second time was yesterday, heard a weird sound and it was the D ring hitting my helmet Laughing .

Don't think I have ever forgotten to do up my helmet when I have put one on.

On 2 occasions I have ridden off without a helmet on Embarassed .

All the best

Keith

Done it once, but it was only to the local video shop, so it wasn't far. I got there and went to undo my helmet only to find it was never done up in the first place...oops.

It makes you a bit annoyed with yourself, because if you have an accident then its not going to save you. Silly Mistake.

I'm with Keith on this one. I don't tend to forget to do it up, but I have driven off twice without a helmet. I get down the road and start wondering if there is a problem with the bike because its very noisy, then it dawns on me.

Wotcha.

Hmm - the "Charlie says" bit has me wondering Confused

I'm an old git, and can just about remember the "Charlie says" public information film. . . which can be found here :---->
CHARLIE SAYS for those who don't know what I'm on about.

I would imagine anyone who remembers that horrific piece of early ( 1973 ) British television would now be at an age where forgetting to fasten one's helmet is the least of their worries Laughing Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Did it a few times when i was learning, havnt done it for ages now. However coming out the house without my helmet then having to unlock the doors again, switch the alarm off etc etc has become a bit of a habit. lol

I've forgot to strap the lid up a couple of times, but that was only because I was sidetracked on both occasions. First time was after my old NS conked out, but finally fired up after being left for a few mins, so i just stuck the lid back on and rushed home. Another time was going to college. Just totally forgot to strap it up, but soon noticed a few minutes after when the strap whipped me in the neck! Laughing

Yeah, I think I remember that, did'nt it have that f*cking annoying cat on it as well which sounded like its owner had been putting some crack in its food? Thinking

Anyway, I always try and check before I go off that the helmet is all done up good. On my CBT the bloke doing it said that some poor bastard was killed locally because his helmet was'nt done up and they found it about 25 metres down the road. Did'nt help either that he went down a one way slip road by mistake either Rolling Eyes Put the shits up me enough so that I always check by habit.

I dont do my Helmet up. Reason is. Because I dont Undo it Laughing

I have the strap set a bit loose, So I can pull the strap forward and pull my helmet on, Then just have a yank on the tag if its too loose. To take it off, I simple pull the red tab to loosen it, and then slide it off (Without actually undoing the strap)

Easier and saves loads of time!

And you'll wonder why it'll not save your life if you crash. Might as well put a plastic bag on your head, it'll do about as much good.

Didn't the cat make a "naarghhowwwieahh" kind of noise. Don't remember them first time around but thank God for list shows like "50 worst public infomercials staring cats called Charlie" that pollute our TVs nowadays. Still Kate Lawler would be unemployed otherwise.

My friend forgot to do up his helmet when borrowing my bike, which he promptly crashed into a fence post at near to 100km/h.

Luckily for him he missed going head first into the post with no helmet on by 3 or 4 inches... The bike wasn't so lucky. I got some satisfaction by the fact that the fence was electric Twisted Evil , considering how much it cost me to rebuild the front end.

I forget to do my helmet up every so often, the strap slaps me in the face.

I've also sat on and started up my bike without realising I had no helmet on. I've also got all the way to school without realising I had no gloves on.

I've never forgotten to do it up, once it is on it's kind of natural to do it up for me.

Rode off without putting it on twice. You think to yourself "Jeez, my engine seems incredibely loud, must be about to blow up". Laughing

Can't say that I can remember ever not doing it up (but Alzheimer's is a bitch). However I have ridden off and after a few seconds thought 'Something doesn't feel right', then after a few more seconds, it occurs to me that I've not put my gloves on!
