Fitted new inner (and outter) seal to master cylinder on ETZ250. Brake lever no longer creeps. Finally got around to fixing the brake light switch too. Cool

Finally got around to changing clutch plates on ETZ251, and replaced gear change shaft o-ring oil seal whilst the clutch cover was off as that was leaking. Now need to fix leaking core plug, and also take piston out and see whether anti-rotation pins for the rings aren't recessed in the cheapo pistons (this happened on another bike of mine on a cheapo piston thankfully without too much damage).

Thoroughly tested my brakes after the bike's service when some c*nt cut across me to get to their oh so important turning. Less SMIDSY and more "if I don't see you, you're not really there" - Schrodinger's Motorbike or some such Sad

Spray painted my red hand guards black - to mask some damage. Looks alright. Sprayed up the coolant pipes too as corrosion was starting to kick in. Rustoleum works wonders!

Bike wouldn't start yesterday- did 110 miles though on Sunday no problem. Felt like ignition - no kickback - and I see there's no spark at the points. They had worn off square and the spark was intermittent at best. I used my tiny file to file the contacts square with eachother again and we're back in action.

A deep clean.
I'm planning on a spin with an ex-colleague in the morning to consume a small amount of bacon and he's under the illusion that I take better care of my bike that I actually do.
The last couple of days have caked the bike in all manner insect life so a scrubbing it got.

I bought a pistol gun for the jetwash which worked really well. It had a nice wide spray setting which while feeling powerful, was actually quite gentle.

Once you start filing points, you know they're on limited time.
I'd suggest fitting new with a new condenser too as this help suppress
the arcing that burns the feckers out

Potentially. I believe (but not quite sure) this is an factory set of points which are obviously far better quality than the crappy aftermarket stuff. I put this set of points on 12k miles now which is fairly reasonable before any sort of issues. I've barely looked at the things let alone maintained them.

So tonight I've done some fiddling with some washers to get the pivoting contact to land even more squarely (perfectly infact) on the static contact- and filed them really nicely. We'll see how this goes. I did test the condenser (admitably cold) but that tested fine and the symptoms did not indicate any failure for this case - I have no reason to even think about replacing that test or no test. I'm not one to just change components without making sure they are defective. And as I say aftermarket points are crap- friend of mine had the heel break on two sets within 30 miles. Good job he had two spare...

Additionally, because this bike let me down again - I went to work on the etz251 to-day - which I then got MOTed. It would be nice to have some backup machines. Monday I tried the TS185 too but it had a solidly stuck throttle when I tried to use it as a backup so as well as fixing the etz250 I fixed the Suzuki. Took carb apart this evening and cleaned it all out as it was full of crap, compressed air etc. So- now I got two backup bikes working.. I might need them too Rolling Eyes

Had the back wheel off the CBF to see I could find anything causing the wobble, but I didn't find anything that seemed an obvious problem, and after putting it all back together it's still the same. Confused

I changed the battery on my Guzzi. First time I've owned a bike long enough to put a second battery in it.

So I think it's time to sell it.

Took the Skorpion out for a little test ride. Got to a corner and it felt like it wanted to go straight on..

..and these things are supposed to be a model of great handling..

Checked tyre pressures - all spot on. Thinking

Replaced rear wheel on my main Deauville as the original was badly corroded on the bead seat and wouldn't hold pressure.

Cleaned up some connections in the loom on the ER6 as the headlight and horn had failed.

MOT'd the Mummy mobile. Need to order a new wheel as one is out of round and a new wing liner for the front left.

Is it something you could throw a tube in, keep as a backup?

Started up the Suzuki for the first time in almost a year
(well ok, I didn't - my ex did, one of his chores whilst doing my front garden gate Laughing )

Took a while and some jump leads, but I think he flooded the engine cos the choke is a bit emotional.

But when he finally got it started, petrol started pissing out the side Thinking So we switched it off in rather a hurry.

Not sure if this is something to do with flooding the engine, but I think I will get the bike shop to pick it up, rather than risk having it blow up in a fireball when I fill it up at the petrol station Shocked

If it runs carbs the floats are probably stuck. Magicians tap the carb bowls with a screwdriver and presto-bongo! the leak stops Smile

This is worth a try (assuming one or more is overflowing) but if its one of the middle ones tappety tap access might be tricky.

PS Ex needs dumping again if not aware of this trick.

If it is running reasonably enough, you can also turn off the petrol tap and only turn it back on when the bike is struggling for fuel- then when it starts overflowing turn the tap off again. Sometimes that clears up float hangs - may require a few cycles.

Thought I'd start trying to get some large dents out of my 550s Fuel Tank by pressurising it with a foot pump.

Dont panic I didn't blow the seams, didn't get that far!

Managed to drop a large bolt into the tank Brick Wall

Learnt the Tank has a lip on the inside so you can't simply turn it upside down and shake it ..... Now fishing with a magnet on a bit of string!

Cheers Chequered Flag
