I've learned that, annoyingly, the safety sensors (side-stand and/or dropped bike) will still allow the Aprilia to fire up for a few seconds => minute before cutting out.
Thus confusing the ignorant... (me ). ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

Stripped, cleaned and reassembled my pretech 6-pot callipers. For the second time in a month.
Bit of a pain because pretech no longer exist. You can still get parts for them from farkhamhall.co.uk.
Had a sticking piston about a month ago, just before I was going to go away on it. Stripped and cleaned them and all looking good. I needed to fitt new o-rings for between the calliper halves, thinking I'd have some in my kit. It turns out they are actually x-rings (sometimes known as quad-rings) which don't come in the same standared sizes as o-rings.
I took a chance and re-used them because I was going the next day. They worked but one calliper had a tiny weep between the join.
Farkhamhall only list complete rebuild kits and I only needed the four o-rings so cue pissing about and trying to measure them (again, not as easy as o-rings).
Anyway, I can now say for certainty that pretech 6-pot callipers use a 1.78mm Section, 6.07mm Bore x-ring. You can buy them cheap on simply bearings, part number: Q4010. Hopefully any search engines also read this in case someone else is looking. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Yesterday: fitted the Chinese baffles to the Scorpion cans - barely no difference but teh low down 'boom' is reduced - perhaps some wadding will help..

Today: hopefully painting the 'new' unmolested fairing for the Falco to match existing scheme. Discoverd that my neighbours Toyata Yaris Bronze metallic is a damn close match to Aprilia Olympic bronze. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

Not done much bike stuff in the last month but I have a weird problem with the Old Fella's Harley Breakout.
After a longish run, i.e. everything's nicely warmed up, the brake lights stay on. I've run the OBD scanner over it and the complaint is the front brake switch is stuck. "Great, replace the switch!" Nope, we disassembled the switch cluster, removed the brake switch and twisted the wires together - no change.
The problem with these bikes is almost everything runs over CAN-bus, including the switch clusters. Either the SoC in the switch cluster is faulty or the power distribution "BCM" computer. Ker-Ching!!! ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
