2k lacquer that mixes in the air?

Can it be true? Is it really fuel proof?? Anyone tried it ???

I suspect it's a touch of obfuscation. Sounds like it's polyurethane laquer with an accelerator in it to make it kick quicker. Rather than an actual 2K paint which is a 2-part epoxy resin.

PU paint and laquer is generally moisture curing anyway, if it's perfectly dry, it doesn't go off. The atmospheric moisture is what makes it cure rather than a straight up chemical reaction between two componants or solvent flashing off.

PU is fuel resistant. The POR15 stuff they use to line rusty/leaky tanks is a polyurethane paint.

Arguably, it's not a bad option for a paint finish on a fuel tank, it's hard as nails once it's gone off and doesn't react with much. Probably more robust than a "proper" 2K. It's what they use to laquer wheels and bumpers. It probably doesn't give you QUITE as good a finish as a 2-part epoxy and some of them are a bit prone to yellowing with age.

For spraying in the UK, PU will go off reliably even in cool, damp conditions so it has that in its favour too. I've seen car enthusiasts in some of the drier parts of the US having to set up fans with damp towels over them to make it cure. It's the go-to finish for chassis parts on 4x4s that are going to get peppered with sand and rocks.

I'll add that PU is probably a lot safer for the operator then spraying an actual 2k paint in a home garage environment. The pro guys don't spray 2k without a forced air respirator.
