 |
|
A close friend on MSN asked me (through very amusing internet art) - what keeps a single sided swingarm's wheel on?
Is it just kept on by some kind of circlip or something? i've often wondered it myself.... ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

There are big F off bolts, but that is only on a VFR that i have been up close to, from memory i think some bikes have just one nut that it done up very tight with a split pin or similar to keep it on the bolt

I used to own a VFR
The VFR's are very similar to the way a cars wheel is held on, four or five big bolts and the sprocket stays attached to the swinging arm when you take the wheel off. Only problem with the 750/800 VFR's is that you have to take the exhaust off too, cos it's in the way
The smaller VFR's have the exhaust routed the same side as the sprocket so you can just undo the bolts
Don't know about anything else though..... ____________________ You will become my force of retribution. Where you tread, doom will follow. Go now and claim your destiny |

Yeah generally manufacturers will put a big nut on to keep the wheel in place.

It would be a 36mm nut. Done up to something like 160nm.
Halfords don't sell 36mm sockets. They sell 34 and 38, but not 36.
My torque wrench goes up to about 80nm.
You may have realised by now that removing the rear wheel from Luke's VFR on Saturday didn't go terribly well. |

Believe it's 120Nm, and my torque wrench only goes to 60Nm |

The big nut is only really removed if the entire eccentric hub needs to be taken apart, no need if its just to remove the wheel. ____________________ "Unlike public school you don't need to have your arse up and your head down to go a long way...." |

as said, on my nc30, its a big 36mm nut with a spacer things, and all the running gear(discs, calipers and sprockets) are kept on the swingarm
five 'spikes' slide into locating holes on the backside of the wheel and then the spacer goes on and then the nut
ot, i dunno if any other nc30 owners feel this way, but when im holding a 1/2 inch torque wrench with a 36mm socket head on, i feel like a real man ____________________ www.wilcollinsphoto.co.uk |

My bike has a 46mm nut!
The socket I use has Triumph engraved upon it!
The wheel can be removed without the brake disc, brake, hub, or axle being removed, and with a high level exhaust (which I have) I can change the wheel in two minutes!
And there is no poncing about with wheel alignment! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
