I got a NSR 125 and i need a new spark plug. Can anyone recommend one to me. Something not too expensive and lasts that extra bit longer and does wotever a spark plug does a lil better,
Thanks Raps
PS, do these get really black really quick on the NSR's? Cos mine is supposed to be practically new (200km old) and when I checked it, it was as black as anything. Im thinking maybe the garage didnt check that side of the bike when i bought it!!! |

if the plug is relativly new and in good condition (appart from been black) have you considered cleaning it with a wire brush!?
the black is a mixture of carbon and oil! I used to take my spark plug out every other week on my NS125R and clean it up!

What ever you do, don't buy any spark plug with the word 'CHAMPION' on it... ____________________ https://www.labusas.org |

Is it sooty black, or oily black?...in most cases, you can probably get away with just cleaning the plug rather than buying a new one, and spend your money on getting a qualified mechanic (oxymoron?...or maybe just moron ) to see what's wrong with your bike. It could just be a case of using too much choke in the morning... ____________________ TiN

when I say wire brush I dont mean like one of these big nasty really hard ones
I use a copper wire brush which cleans it up with no damage. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

By the sound of it your bike is running rich which is no bad thing be worried when its running lean and you take your plug out and its bone white, to be quite honest i'd leave it as it is mate and just replace the plug regularly or you could jet down and correct the mixture giving you longer plug life and the possibility of more power (it will only be a small increase though)
hope this helps

Hi
Doubt an Iridium plug would stay clean for longer, just cost a fortune more to replace (think they are around £12 each the last time I asked)
If you are using the bike round town then maybe use a B8 plug. The number is the heat range the plug works in, with lower number being "hotter" plugs to work in a colder engine (thats logic for you......). A lower number will result in a higher temp in the combustion chamber and will make the plug less likely to foul up. However it is possible that it will cause problems (possibly engine damage such as a hole burnt in the piston) if the bike is thrashed with that plug in place.
Honda specify a BR9ECS plug, or a BR10ES plug for extended high speed riding. From that I would guess that you could use a BR9ES plug without any real problems, and these should be easy to find
If you want to know how the NGK plug names can be decoded:-

All the best
