I know you shouldn't park on the pavement. It will be veiwed as an obstruction to pedestrians.
However, what I do not understand is why you cannot park in a car bay? Understandably you are trying to avoid paying the pay and display ticket (there's not really anywhere to display a ticket on a bike). However, I asked in Cardiff and they work on a voucher system for parking - similar to pay and display but more flexible. Motorcycles can park in car bays in this instance and don't have to display a ticket.
It might be an idea to try and park at the end of the bay as suggested, but if you are leaving it there everyday make sure you chain it to something please.
Maybe write a letter to your local council asking for advice as to how to park your motorcycle detailing all the problems you have had. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

Someone told me a while ago (don't go doing this, I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting tickets if it doesn't work) that if you cover your tax disc and numberplate with a plastic bag then you cannot get a ticket because to remove the bags would be tampering and parking wardens are not allowed to tamper with any vehicle... but I wouldn't try my luck with that one to be honest. ____________________ Alli x

I remember reading and archiving some stuff from this forum about parking on the pavement.
I looked up the links and the info is:
Part one - got a ticket - click here
Part two - a must read - click here
Hope this helps ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

my car was parked 2 wheels on the pavement and managed to get outside before she gave me a ticket. Told me that their needs to be "2 pram widths" space left on the pavement for it to be legal. That might be where the confusion is (how much space to leave) ____________________ -=[Sam/b]=- cx500's the only way to travel, we do it in style just like jimmy saville

The major problem with regards to parking bikes, particularly in London is that different Boroughs have different rules. For example in Hounslow you can only park in designated bays in a CPZ but in Hammersmith & Fulham & Barnet anywhere. Camden, Islington and Westminster are punitive in their approach and with so many scooters in London the bays are usually full by 10am. Westminster insist they have increased the number of bays by 40% over the past 3 years but as the number of bikes has increased three fold there are not enough. I wrote to TfL (Transport for London)about three years ago pointing this out and they blamed Westminster. Westminster didn't reply to any emails I sent.
The ideal scenarionwould be for the same rule across the UK to cut out in the confusion. In the meantime one has to fill one's brain with the bike parking regulations of each London Borough, when there are more important things to think about! ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |
