I'm worried that petrol prices are never going to go back below 1 pound a litre, and that really sucks!
Looking at the reasons for the increase, I don't think that this is a short-term blip, and that scares me. Who knows where this will end??

Hi
At £1 a litre you are paying about 64p tax a litre.
There is plenty of oil about. Proven reserves were about 45 years, but that is economically viable known reserves at current rates of consumption, and with higher prices of oil that will have risen.
It is also quite easy to run diesel vehicles on bio fuels, and alcohol can be substitued into petrol with some changes.
All the best

If it gets too silly I'm getting myself an MZ 2-stroke. I know of a guy who is running his on pre-pack methylated spirits and paint thinners via an SU carb. He had the carb jet adjuster attached to a bowden lever so he could alter tha diameter of the main jet on the fly to suit whatever fuel he was using at the time. Short term, it wont go down. Long term? It may go up more.
At the end of the day, if you have a 600, you wont be paying *loads* for fuel when you compare it, to say, a landrover or something like that. I feel much more for people with huge petrol drinking engines.
I do believe the phrase is "shit happens". Deal with it
I hear in zimbabwe [sp?] it's £3 a litre. Imagine that. |

What depresses me is little is being done to improve public transport.
In almost every case, the train is at least double the cost of taking the bike somewhere... and you still have to add Bus/Taxi fares onto that... and the time spent waiting for these services!
The cost of transport is going up... which is a shame as I always considered that getting around was no longer a problem in this day and age. Seems a few hundred miles acually is

UP YE !!!
Petrol prices in Scotland ain't that high, it's about 90p a litre in most place, even when I went to rural Wales it was only about 93/94p....
Still, I get 150/170 miles for every £12 of Optimax in the bike and 370 miles for every £35 pounds of unleaded in my Honda Civic. TBH I think thats pretty good going. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

It's all well and good for the government to put petrol tax up to "persuade" you on to public transport, but what if you live in the middle of nowhere? In Sheffield I have a wide choice of buses, trams and trains to choose from to get around, but up in the Durham countryside we have one bus an hour to Durham City (if it bothers, and it costs £4.10 for a 12 mile round trip!!) and nothing as advanced as a train or tram. A car or bike is essential, whatever the price of fuel ____________________ Monster m600

The Tesco station I work in has stayed at 89.9 for a good while now, but was only 85p when I started out 2 months ago. The diesel prices seem to go up more frequently, at our station at least, now thats at 93.9p.
I'm curious to see what it'd be like working in a petrol station during a strike, just get harassed about the extortionate prices and have very quiet shifts. On the other hand, being a road user, thats the last thing I want. ____________________ Aprilia RSV Mille R Edwards Replica - Aprilia RS250 - Suzuki GSXR600 Supersport Race Bike |

This is one of the reasons I just got a bike...
I can do 130 miles to about £11 on my ZZR, where as, my Mitsubishi VR4 gets 180 miles to about £50....
Needless to say, the car has become a weekend play thing and the bike now bears the brunt of my commuting and general travel.
I see this as a win / win situation, as the running cost of the car was crippling me to the point of selling it.
As for oil reserves, they will never run out.... Anyone (myself included) that used to believe the old - oil is dead animals and trees routine - open your eyes a bit. It's been proven that oil is a naturally produced by-product of the earths core fussion (sp) process. There was a web site that had lots of info on it, but I don't have the addy here. I will find it and post it.... Then you can decide what you believe...
OPEC and the likes have been using the running out fast routine since the 70's to line their own pockets, and will continue to do so... ____________________ Mungel
