Could be down on compression - may be worth checking piston rings...

What!... mine redlines at 11000 rpm in 6th. This is about 104mph

You can go a bit faster, but this means operating the engine in the red...I'm not partial to trying this.

do you know that the crankshaft has been tested at 15000 rpm during 36 Hours with less than 0.5% of break down . the only tip at these speed is to run a bit more rich and oily .

Yep, and that's why you have to change your piston rings every five minutes.

For you average person (like me), all you need to do is this.

Arrow Take the intake plate out (between the carb & engine)
Arrow Take the exhaust restrictor pipe out
Arrow Clean the air filter (see you bike manual)
Arrow Make sure you have 14 & 36 sprockets
Arrow Fit a BR9IEX (Iridium spark plug from NGK)
Arrow Clean Carb

Exclamation Unless you bought a non UK bike - In that case good luck Exclamation

Don't even bother with all this rejetting, fitting a fancy exhaust or fucking about with the carb, you'll only serve to make the motor seize before it's time.

Yes these measures will add a tiny bit more power and speed, but unless you are using it in competition, or you have the want / need to change your piston rings every 7500 miles and rebuild your top end every 22500miles don't even bother.

Just save your money for a bigger bike.

Besides, in the UK, being able to put your bike back to the restricted state, and putting the L-Plates back on will increase the resale value when you come to sell.
Who wants to buy a time bomb (about to seize) two stroke from a young lad with a fancy exhaust whos been racing around. Exactly, what people want is a perfect condition bike that's never been passed 8000rpm, and been used for a couple of thousand miles by a learner.

you certainly had not caught everything . except the mechanical restrictions (exhaust, intake plate) the UK specs bike are not restricted . the (or import from) french , swiss , german NSR125R are restricted (electronics and barrel design) and in germany they have a box restriction for limiting at 80km/h for youth and beginers(the insurance is reduced by half) . the only thing that uk ridders do not know is precisely these restrictions , otherwise they would have bought uk specs .(and i think this is thieving from sellers who surely know) . buyers if you see a letter B after JC22 it's french !

restrictions on NSR125: front sprocket, carb, exhaust

after fixing all that, you can usually get 0-60 in 6 seconds and a top speed of approx 110mph.
sorted Thumbs Up

If its a UK model it is that clear cut, apart from the necessary up jetting and modifications to the air box.

However if you are running an import model, well its a lot more complicated than that Wink

i know its a rly old topic but if its here its here lol

my rear sprocket has 38 teeth is that wayyyy to big or not?

is it worth getting it changed when i do my chain?

and what is this sprocket likely to be doing to my bike? ie better acceleration, nothing ect

not sure on the front! how can i check?

cheers

the 1999-2001 bikes have been equiped with 14 in front and 38 in rear . when changing it ask for 14x36 you will gain about 4 mph and the loss in acceleration will be insignificant
