I've noticed in many signatures at the end of posts that people have two-three bikes listed (sometimes with one crossed off;sold maybe).

So what is it with having multiple bikes? And please don't tell me it's for when one breaks down. I'm going to buy my first bike soon (finally one to call my own) if things go well God-willing, so having to think that way would be depressing.

If I could afford too, I'd have several bikes. Wanting an off roader for this winter to muck about on.

Also, wouldn't say no to a track bike.

If you've got it, flaunt it eh? Laughing

Mine is summer bike and winter hack (well it would be if I got the hack sorted).

Want to get a off-roader/super moto.

Lot's of people have project bikes as well.

All sorts of reasons really, if money was no object why would you not have the best bikes in each class and a couple of classics for good measure. I know I would.

Makes perfect sense, but as for Klause's friend who has 20 bikes....why?? I mean cars for example, I can imagine (dream actually) of owning a Range Rover, a Ferrari and a four door Mercedes, each car would be different. So why the bikes?

Forgive me, but like I said...I'm Born Again Biker, so don't know much about this stuff.

Ideally I would have 2 bikes, a hack (to use as a car) and something for the weekend.

Ideally (if i had the cash) i would have:

CB500
KTM 660
Honda RS250
RVF400
Virago/harley
R1
Pan Euro
Bonnie

I personnally could easily justify owning all of the above bikes at the same time as they all have strenghs and purposes. Commuting on a sports bike isnt fun, hence the CB500, pan euro for touring, cruiser for sticking to the speed limits in style and comfort, R1 as the road sports bike, rs250 as the track bike RVF for the twisties, ktm for stunting and off road Thumbs Up

If you can afford multiple bikes, then why the hell not?
Multiple bikes is just like owning a classic car you polish every day, aswell as a 1 litre run about and a sports car. No you can't drive them all at once, but each can do things the other can't

I think VFR summed it up. Bikes are relatively cheap, so if you can afford it, why not one for each occasion. A car driver wouldn't take his lexus IS200 green laning, he'd buy an RX aswell. We all can't afford that, and a Land Rover is pig ugly (and stupidly expensive), so do it on a bike. Track days...................hmmmmm sportscar, or sportsbike. I'll afford the sportsbike first i think. Personally, got to pay for too many other things, but that's my problem.

Also people end up getting attached to them and can't bear to sell.

Not me, I couldn't wait to get rid of the last piss-annoying thing. Evil or Very Mad

If you've got the cash, I say do what you love, there's a bike for every use.

Why bikes are better than women....

Reason 283- You can ride other bikes and yours won't get jealous.

different bikes are good at different things.

the job of commuting is different to the job of going fast round country lanes. Cruising at a comfortable high speed on a motorway is a differant task.

it can make good financial sense to have a cheap commuter 'hack' to run up the low performance miles on rather than wear out soft high performance tyres.

Ive just passed my test and was thinking I would have a 250 scooter for commuting and keep my rs125 for countr road blasting. Now I'm thinking that the thundercat may be better and can do both, but it wd probably make good financial sense to get a thundercat and a cheap scooter rather than wear out the thundercats costly bits.

r6 for wet riding ?! r6 wd be my bike for sunday best

Its easier to do this with bikes than cars.

Why spend £3.00 on a spanner that you can sort of use as a screwdriver too, when you can buy a spanner for £1.50 and a screwdriver for £1.50, both of which do the job perfectly cos they are designed for the job ?

I have one that is going to be my main touring/razzing about bike when I get a few details sorted out.

One that I am keeping because it runs well and the cosmetic damage has reduced its value to nothing, it also shares an engine with my first one so if that goes bang I have a spare.

Another of the same that I ran into the ground and have dismantled for spares for the first two.

One classic bike that I am doing up and will eventually cruise about on for the sheer hell of it. It also has a wacky engine that burns shitloads of petrol and makes loads of smoke so I can thumb my nose at authority.

One that I just like the general cheapness, reliability and simplicity of the engineering on that I derive great pleasure from riding about like an idiot at rediculously slow speeds using virtually no fuel.

One that I have had for years, has been written off twice and that I keep coming back to like a dog coming back to its sick. I would also have to pay someone to take it away.

I like them all and derive pleasure from them all. The most expensive one cost me £1400, the cheapest (and longest serving) was £200.

You see now, Arabian Night? There's a reason for everything.

and Black Night, one reason for getting into biking again was to be able to tell the missus I'm going out for a 'ride'. When she leaves, she can't even say I was lying to her.

Before you all flame me, you don't know what she's been up to! But I do Wink and she don't know what I know!! Shame we've got children together, but then again it ain't a shame, cos they are the reason blah blah blah too much information........................

And I'm sitting at a computer at 1am when i should be wiping it on the curtains. (old joke springs to mind)
