ok none of my mates at college have bikes and i am the only one (not sure why sometimes) but anyways, i took one of them on the back of my RS just round a car park one day as he was asking me to go on the back but didnt really want to go on road with L-plates etc etc. Today he comes into college and explains that he has got enough money to get a 125cc bike and i though cool! so naturally i say ill help him get into biking.
however later on he come up with a printout of a CBR125 from honda website and says that its the biek he wants. IMO CBR125 is a good starter bike so i was thinking yea ok doesnt sound too bad, it was at the point he was quting "simular styling to larger sibling CBR600 and fireblade" that i got a little worried. i told him nicly how they are somewhat small and dont really go that fast, also said that a lot of poeple think there not that great as bike but his mind seems to quite made up already,
i showed him NSR125 in a hope he might change his mind and he went on about how the website said they had crap fuel ecomony!
i also explained how buying it new was not a good idea either as CBR125 lose value like anything
The point is should i let him buy one or try and get him to get somthing he wont be bored of in a couple of months? ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

The NSR will do 160 miles to a tank if run gently, or 110 if ragged.
You want bad fuel economy, tell him to get an RS250.
80 miles to a tank - yeuch.
PS. Don't let him get a CBR125 unless he's the size of a 12 year old - he'll be too big for it. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

try and convince him, usher him onto BCF so he can see that the view is not just yours alone. If he still goes for his own choice, leave him be. But be ready with your "i told you so's" in a few months time
Perhaps bet him a pint or summit, free beer somewhere along the line! ____________________ Its Not a Melon, Its Clearly a Lime!!

yea but if he get a NSR i can get him to come on rideout with other 125cc instead of being left behind as CBR are really slow (never rode with one but from figures no way it could keep up with other 125's eg RS NSR) any good reasons anyone can think of why not? ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

Tell him to get a cbr125, honestly, best ides. That way he'll get bored of it quick and go pass his test, unlike you boys who sit on your 2 strokes for 23 months before deciding you should take your test.
Go get him to sit on one at a local dealers and then see how he feels. |

Do you mean the lads that learn to ride their bikes close to their limits rather than bimbling around on them for a few months and then getting another bike they don't know how to ride to its full potential? ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

No, I generally mean the ones that stick around annoyingly for 23 months posting stupid questions about how to make their machines quicker and how it will beat imprezas off the lights. Granted there is less of them on the forum it seems.
I generally tend to think people magically 'grow up' when they get a bigger bike. Well, at least stop talking pish.

Nothing wrong with getting a cbr provided its for a reasonable price.
Buying one new is plain stupid, however second hand ones can now be found cheaply |

I think the CBR is ok too. I rode mine for a year and loved it.
Buying secondhand is a good move as someone else will suffer the inital depreciation (me... ).
I've stuck an advert in the for sale section for my old CBR125. My friend bought it but now needs to sell it to purchase a van for his business and I reckon you could get it for a good price. I can guarantee its been well looked after!
