Had my aprilia for hmm, about 2 months, first thing, chain and sprockets went, second thing my bearings popped, third thin i snapped a spoke, and the worst bit of it all is that no-where gives a shit and cant be assed to help you get the parts!!!
My bike has now been off the road since september the 5th, been having to cycle 5 miles up and down hills to school and not being able to go out. I ordered the new spoke from bikersworld, they had to get it from FRANCE, and for a 97p part it cos me £7.36 with postage and vat!!!
I waited over 2 weeks for the part to arrive took it to the garage where my bike is sat and realised i did not get sent a nipple, and the old one is slightly smaller. Not a slight hint of any help from bikersworld and I now have to order a Nipple from FRANCE and pay excessive postage, wait a stupid time, and then finally, hopefully get it back on the road!!!
rant over, all worked up now!!! gunna go have a ciggy, cheers for reading ____________________ **FOR SALE** Aprilia RX50, full system gianelli exhaust, 70cc MK big bore, MK pro race filter, 20mm Dellorto carb, aftermarket sticker set, small plate, carbon look indicators, new rear tyre, years tax and mot, new chain and sprockets, very fast bike. 1200 ono **FOR SALE** |

I think you have a dud, to be honest. I have a mate with the same bike and he has nothing but praise for it, it seems nothing has ever gone wrong.
Luck of the draw, eh?
Don't get discouraged, if you've lost faith in the bike sell it on, but if you still like it just continue using it and think positive. |

To be honest, its partly my fault that its broke, i mean i took the dam thing dirt jumping, blowing the bearingd and doing the spoke. It needed new chain and sprockets anyway. The thing, however, that I am really annoyed with is the fact that no-one is willing to go out of their way to help you, the dealers are crap and the parts are Ridiculously hard to get your hands on!!! I so wish I had brought summit more common like a ts50 or a dt50 as parts wud be asier to come by.
Apart from all this i love the bike, its beautifull to ride, fast for a 50cc, looks the bizz and is generally a good bike, im just annoyed it all happened at once and caught me on the back foot. To be quite honest this whole eppisode has nearly put me off bikes all together!!!! I am seriosuly considering selling the bike and having the money for alcohol and ciggarettes!!! or has anyone got a 50 they wanna sell me?

I personally also think aprilia,s are shit after the experience of owning two AF1 125,s the bikes spent 90% of there time off the road because of there poor build quality and unreliability, nearly may me buy a car and give up on bikes, Thank God for the Honda NSR125RR ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Hi
Chain and sprockets are consumables. Can't blame Aprilia for that, and if it was the steering head bearings that you wrecked from off roading you cannot really blame Aprilia for that.
The reason that you would have difficulty getting a spoke is few dealers would trust someone to fit a single spoke, and do not want to open themselves up to being sued when they supply one which someone screws up fitting. Suspect most bike makers supply spokes as a complete kit for a wheel and would not sell individual ones.
Some Aprilia dealers are useless. My local ones was good for spares as they did not just complain that they were difficult to get, instead ordering them through Aprilias online parts system and getting them in rapidly (even bits for a 15 year old AF1). Pity they went bust.
Build quality wise my RS125 is better finished than my 1200 Bandit. And if the Bandit was in the same state of tune it would be producing around 250hp at the back wheel at which point I would expect the engine to have the life expectancy of a hand grenade with the pin pulled out .
All the best

Dear Tom C RX50,
Focus on the problem here.
Are you not happy with your purchase?
If so get it fixed and punt it.

So, by your own admission you caused the damage or the parts that have broken needed repairing anyway?
Your reason for your post then is????????
It's called part of the growing up process, learning from your mistakes. And taking what is effectively a 50cc learner road bike off roading is asking for trouble and damage.
I never took my MT50 off road as I needed it for travel, as you've already said, you're now having to pushbike everywhere. Where do you priorities lie?
Other than that, yes, a DT would have been cheaper to buy, maintain and repair. But then, its Japanese and not some trendy tarty Italian bike... ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

And how much of that is owner abuse?
| dragonfly wrote: | wen left in for repair the guy apparently uses all apprillia parts etc. |
You only really mentioned chains. You can wreck a chain in virtually no time if you do not adjust it or lube it. Doesn't matter who makes the chain. Owner abuse will wreck then however good they were.
| dragonfly wrote: | the piston blew up on the 03rs125 apprilla whilst driving up a duel carriage way with me on it! that was that scrapped. |
So, was it warmed up? Had the piston / rings been inspected / changed as recommended for services? Owners handbook for my old RS tells you to check the piston rings at 8000km (5000 miles) at which point you may as well change them.
| dragonfly wrote: | apparently the 04 rs 125 we have the piston blows up on it at 10000miles,is that right? |
Quite possibly if you abuse it by failing to service it as specified, and if you do service it then the piston will likely be changed then (and the rings at half that).
They are engines with the nuts tuned off them. If you want the performance then you have to put up with the shorter lives of engine components.
All the best

Right lets just get this straight, there is nothing majorly wrong with the Aprilia rs 125, it does not have a explosive device in the engine which is set off at 10,000miles.
If you LOOK AFTER IT, it will be fine that means following the manual, using good quality 2 stroke oil and warming up above 65degrees before thrashing the motor.
The build quality of the aprilia and parts used (going from my 98 model) were of a high quality. People have said that the newer model isn't as good as the old for quality though.
Only annoying thing i found with my rs 125 was everything todo with the engine was very cramped so was annoying to work on.
If you need parts for an Aprilia buy MCN, loads advertised in there like speedaway in birmingham (massive place) and Komodo in wales is good.
Hay the Aprilia isn't perfect but in my opinion its the best overall sports looking 125
Good luck with getting the parts |
