Obviously this is not the correct amount of revs for tick over on my mito, im guessing arount 1500-2k?

Should i be thinking about adjusting the throttle cable, pilot screw in the carb or is there something else i should check for?

Also could this high tick over cause any damage in the long term?
Thanks

There will be a large screw on the side of the carb somewhere, turn it anticlockwise to decrease the idle speed.

Check that your throttle cable isnt being caught anywhere and also check that it is releasing properly. It could also be drawing in air between the carb and engine (rubber inlet manifold I expect) so check that there aren't any cracks in the pipe and make sure the screws are tight.

tickover should be somewhere between 1250 and 1450, if you set it at the higher end of this , there will be less chance of the bike stalling when you have to slow suddenly or change down and stuff

Cheers for all your help lads, i checked the pilot screw on the carb and it didnt make any difference at all so i assumed that it must be the throttle cable getting caught...wasnt this either.

Good thinking ZaphodBeeble, i'll check for air leaks tomorrow Thumbs Up

it seems i was too late in checking for air leaks, i wonder if someone could help me out as i may just be jumping to conlusions... the bike will now not start at all unless i run as fast as hell to bump start it, when it does finally start it is really sluggish and i have to keep the revs above 5k otherwise it dies.

Im guessing this is probably the signs of a cracked ring/piston?
Could this be the cause of the carb being modified to fit a k&n air filter rather than the original air box and there is too much air in the mixture?

I hope im wrong so if somebody else has got any other possible solutions let me know.

cheers
