 |
|
If you have no chain on your sprockets and start the bike up in neutral, I assume it's normal for the front sprocket to whirl round?
Also, with no chain on my Sv650, is it normal for the clutch to be very light i.e I'm not used to this kind of clutch mechanism - on the hornet, the clutch cable goes to the rhs, on the sv, it seems to be inside behind the front sprocket casing. So, if I put a new chain on, the clutch will go back to being a bit heavier, yes?
Replacing chain (looked abnormally shagged) for sale tomorrow so appreciate any tips/advice.

Yep, quite normal. It's the oil being dragged round by one gear shaft and tranferring the motion to the other. You often see it on bikes when they're on the centre-stand as well - means the chain and sprockets are well lubed and the brakes aren't dragging.

Chain and sprockets, or lack thereof, should have no effect on the feel of your clutch lever as they're not connected. Have you already had the sprocket cover off to remove the chain? If so, it sounds like you may have mis-set the cover and the clutch operating worm isn't meeting up with what it should. You haven't lost the clutch push-rod have you? |

Try and decipher what that means.
Mashed clutch arm or whatever that means? Bit of metal has sheared right off.
As usual, I jump to conclusions and I hope to god I'm wrong here, but I'm assuming I need an engine to strip down and steal this part from?
Great - was selling it tomorrow too to make way for a ninja I am buying.
to me. |

Just outside langbank, past the mini roundabout. Thing was, jsut before it I said to myself, "This time I'll be smooth with the acceleration" as the roads were 'caked' with diesel at that moment in time.
So pushed it a couple of hundred meters up to the last slip road in langbank and hired an arnold clark van and picked it up. |

Sorry for late reply ...
Anyhoo ... if the chain snapped then what you've probably done (as I've done before) is chop the pushrod up into bits!!!!
Either buy a new one from Suzuki (Robinsons Foundry is good) or check the diameter of the rod and then go and buy a bit'o'steel from B&Q, cut it to length (make it too long and then start trimming it) and you're away.
I did mine using an old screwdriver as the donor pushrod ... and it's Mr Le Bodgee to you
All the best ... Barry
P.S. Available tomorrow to lend a hand/fix it, once I've fitted the new oil cooler (fifth one in two months!!!) ... dead easy to do, it'll just take a wee while to get it to the right length. |
