hi guys.

ive found a place that deals in AGV lids out here. now they look absolutely awesome and are a hell of a lot cheaper than arais. are they just as good? worse? better?

i'm looking at getting the TiTech in tatoo blue.

also a friend of mine has hein gericke leathers for sale. i've never heard of this company before but i did my homework and they look fairly decent. good idea to get em or not?

Depending on the model, AGV can be as expensive as Arai. I wore an AGV lid in a crash once, and I didn't die, so it can't be that bad. Laughing

Hein Gericke (HG) are a german company, I've got a set of HG leathers, and I've had them for two years now, and they're still in pretty good nick. Been used for over 25k miles. Also had 3 offs in them, and like I say, still pretty good nick. Smile

HTH at least a little bit.

I would say that in terms of crash protection there's probably not *that* much between AGV and Arai, but as I've pointed out here, the fit of the individual model of helmet is more important than the manufacturer - you need to try a few on! Smile

As impaler says, don't set your heart and budget on one particular brand of helmet. Best fit is the most important thing.

As far as one lid being as good as another as far as safety goes, they all have to pass the same tests. They vary in shell size, weight, materials, etc. The price rises generally with the materials, weight and brand name.

Buy the best fit, same for leathers.

i own a BMW helmet at the moment (designed for touring so not tight fitting)

i went down to Race world today where they have the AGV lids and i tried out a demo GP pro and it was a stunning helmet! excellent ventilation, nice snug fit and felt like it really would save my life.

it costs 1,600 dhs that's about 235 quid, sound like your average price?

if so i'll probably buy it next month.

HG leathers sound pretty decent as well i'll be on my to go check em out soon.

cheers for the help guys.

Whatever the design of the helmet, it should be a snug fit.

Coming off a touring bike at 70mph will do the same damage as a sports bike at 70mph.

If it's loose then that's because it's not a good fit for you.

Actually the beginning of it was on tarmac and kerbing, then onto grass.

The abrasion factor isn't really in question, most leathers will hold up to that fairly well, what's interesting is that the soft and thin 'Hiprotec' armour seems to be excellent (consider that the grass was also really hard, it being winter and all).

Try all makes of helmets, each make feels different. HG leathers are pretty good. AGV helmets are good too. I trust my skin and head in them. Shark helmets are good too

And flexible too, which makes a difference with comfort/wearing while off the bike.

I had an AGV, it was noisy as hell, the vents didnt work, the visor always steamed up and the visor closing mechanism had a knack of snapping lugs off the visor. RiDE magazine tested some helmets (including the spike test Sick ) and I think my particular AGV failed some sections that were passed by much cheaper helmets.

It looked good though!!

................it means he's being paid enough to wear it.

I would ride around with a helemt that had a picture of a turd on the side of it for the amount of cash that man must get on sponsorships.

As for HG I like them, I like the service etc too. On the downside from a few posts on here some people hate them becuase some gear ends up going back for repair...often. Mates been without his winter trousers for three weeks because all the stitching came out, and they cost 280 notes. Thinking

if you are going to get a arai make sure it is a real tight fit cause they slacken off a fair bit. i have had both arai and agv and in my opinion arai are far better. they are well worth the money.

I have an AGV X-R2
in my oppinion its a bit shit,
1 wind noise is bad,
2 the visors are ill fitting causing rain to get in even when the visor is shut
3 the two above things for the cost,, doesnt do it for me
4 you have to get a small fog city and that buggers up your vision

the good points

1 its pretty comfy
2 its light
3 it doesnt give you neck ache after a long trip
4 it wont get a speed wobble

Ive had Caberg J1 (flip up) and that was really crap, visor fogged up and wouldnt fit a fog city due to the silly shape of the visor,
also it weighed loads and wobbled at speed,

also an Airoh, and i really cant fault this one,, comfort, lightness price, fits a fog city (and doesnt scratch the hell out of it)
so far this would be the only helmet id recomend,

can comment on other brands though
