......And saved the ThunderAce Laughing

Binned the KH125 on the way home from work tonight.

Some pratt in a honda civic in front of me on a 50mph limt duel carriageway by Hayes slamed his brakes on when the lights which were about 200m in front turned to yellow. Rolling Eyes

l tryed to slow the bike down to prevent me slamming into the back of him but lost the front wheel in the wet (nylon tyres and the wet don,t go well) l silded for about 50m with the bike on top of my left leg after hitting the road at 50mph, as soon as l came to a stand still l grabed the bike and dragged it off the road to the grass verge then checked my self and the bike over for damage, while l was doing this the honda had drove off and no one else going by bothered to stop.

damage

1993 Kawasaki KH125 (rat bike)

Arrow cracked headlight casing
Arrow bent inducator stems
Arrow snapped clutch lever
Arrow cracked and no longer working speedo

Me

Arrow scuffed leather jeans
Arrow ripped jacket elbow
Arrow ripped glove
Arrow scuffed helmet

Because l was wearing leathers with a armoured tex jacket l,m fine, and the bike only really needs a new clutch leaver to ride again (even though l rode it 15 miles home after the crash, using clutchless gear changes).

Be careful guys this winter, and wear leather/armoured tex Thumbs Up

Thats why you ride winter kill bikes! Sorry to hear though. Are you going to need a new helmet if it has taken a hit?

The forks will be twisted in the yokes. Loosening the yoke clamps and knocking it straight on into a wall should fix it. Alternatively, grip the wheel between your knees and twist the bars.

Glad to hear you are ok mate.

Unlucky with the helmet. I've considered buying a cheap lid for the winter, don't fancy smashing the Arai, nearly did it once already. Good to see your kit did it's job though.

You can ride the bike fine then, no need to fix anything. A clutch is a commodity, not a necessity! Laughing

I think you'll find they all pass the same tests unless you bought your helmet copy from Taiwan. Rolling Eyes

If you really need to know my business in more depth I'd PM you, you don't have a PM.

You've got half a point, I suppose in conditions where you are more likely to come off you don't want to be landing on the most expensive helmet.

But if I was coming off a bike like yours the helmet damage would be the least of my worries. Shocked

Bad luck tatters, better that than the Ace I suppose. Sad

You have half a point. I suppose I should have made my self more clear for those who are so interested in my helmet. Rolling Eyes Wink

It is a limited edition, therefore I would like to keep it looking all nice and shiny for as long as possible. Some people like to take their bikes out on Sundays when it's nice and sunny and warm, I don't have that option. But I do have the option of buying more kit and doing so for my lid. You see? Everyone Happy?

Glad you are ok Tatters - that dual carriageway is on my daily commute, it can be an absolute nightmare at rush hour. Luckily, a lot of my shifts finish outside normal busy times, so the ride home is usually pretty relaxed.

Sounds like the rat did the job it was bought for - not sure I like the sound of nylon tires though! Is it possible/worth getting those replaced?

First very glad your ok

Second no one stopped to check you where ok...what a bunch of Bastards

Lastly you really can’t blame the car driver you should have left enough room to stop safely for the conditions.

As colinwall said keep a good gap so you can always stop safely in the distance you know to be clear.

Shame about the bike, strange when I crashed my kh100 years ago that trapped my right leg beneath the bars. Was wearing jeans at the time though Rolling Eyes. I went to a breakers and got replacement parts for the total sum of £6 Smile

When wearing an expensive lid such as an Arai you're getting more than just protection, there's the comfort factor and good ventilation as well.

With the exception of breath ventilation, these things don't tend to make as much difference on the winter commute, as when you're hooning around at 130mph on a sunny 30 degree summers' day.
