I'm sorry to say that I've decided to give up my biking for the time being. I've been using my bike regularly throughout this winter, but am finding that I'm just not enjoying it at all. I love biking in the summer, but I can't afford to have both a decent car and a decent bike - and a decent car can be an all year round enjoyable hobby. I'm probably going to buy another Honda Prelude.

As I'm now going to be selling my bike - does anyone know how big a different selling it now or selling it at the start of summer is going to make to the price I'll get for it?

Right now it's probably going to fetch £2500ish, depending on condition. I'd add £300 or so in Spring.

Fair enough really, this winter for me is particularly bitter, I don't mind that I'm not going to be riding for a couple of months, in this horrible weather.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but does the <2000 TT not have something of a tarnished reputation? It may hurt when coming to selling it.

Parkers tell me 3090 is the sort of price for one in great nick. Pessimistically, I'd knock £500 off that for your final selling price, now. My first figures were off by a fair bit.

I agree, the cold and wet weather is such a put off, Im hardly using the RD at the moment, Im catching bus into town etc. I just hate riding it at the moment, thats why Im considering selling my bike too, getting a car, keeping the RG, and getting a larger bike in April or something.

I'm looking for £3.5k for my 2004 Daytona 600, so I think £3k is a bit rich for a TT600. Just me though.

Why not keep the bike and get a cheapish car? If biking is in your blood (and I'm sure it is) then you will be gutted when the warmer weather comes....

A lot of Daytona 600s are going on the market at the moment as owners move on to the 675. I think that will affect the TT600 price as it's seen as the older brother of the Daytona 600

I only started riding in October last year so yet to have the joy of riding in the summer, ridden pillion mind. Been riding almost every day so far, yes it is cold and bitter some days, I did wonder if I was doing the right thing taken my test in winter, was worried about catching an icey day but as luck had it I was fine, it was worth 40mins of freezing my tits off to get the pass that I so badly wanted, just looking forward to warmer days now.
Throughout winter so far I have seen at least one bike every day on the road so there does seem to be a fair few of all weather riders out there.
Had a bmw up til October last year, it was my baby but got bitten by the bike bug and never looked back since, nice cars dont interest me anymore and I still get to drive each day for work

i agrue with you dracan, i have a 50 mile round trip to college and when i get there (normally farly cold but i dont mind it) have to hey all my bike stuff off and just takes ages, then put it in a locker then get this guy to put my helmet in his office (is a new shoei and dont leave it around like my old beiffe incase it gets knocked

In all honesty, I'm thinking of doing the same. For a couple of years.

Buy the bandit, do a small tour of europe, sell it and leave bikes for a few years. Don't want one on the street and need to save money.

Must admit , I hate winter riding also, just do about 10 miles a week, to keep it running, even then salt gets to it.

I don't mind not riding though, as soon as salts gone and a bit warmer i'll be commuting again.

What made it worse, is I recently had to travel to Harrogate (about 28 miles from me), this was for about a week. Anyway this took me 2 hours in the car each way, absolute knightmare. I know if i'd been on bike I could have done it easily in 45 minutes. (On a weekend on bike , I could do it in 25 mins).

I know how you feel about winter riding, but is there no way you can afford both?

Personaly i'm not too fussed about cars (along as they have air con & fit 3 kids), currently saving for new car, but my just spend money on new bike. (What would neighbours think Y reg car on drive & a 06 bike). hmmmmm
