I'm sorry to say that I've decided to give up my biking for the time being. I've been using my bike regularly throughout this winter, but am finding that I'm just not enjoying it at all. I love biking in the summer, but I can't afford to have both a decent car and a decent bike - and a decent car can be an all year round enjoyable hobby. I'm probably going to buy another Honda Prelude.

As I'm now going to be selling my bike - does anyone know how big a different selling it now or selling it at the start of summer is going to make to the price I'll get for it?

That's an 02 TT, yeah?

Right now it's probably going to fetch £2500ish, depending on condition. I'd add £300 or so in Spring.

Fair enough really, this winter for me is particularly bitter, I don't mind that I'm not going to be riding for a couple of months, in this horrible weather. Thumbs Down

Nope, it's just a 2000. It's in excellent condition though. I'm hoping it'll fetch around £3k. I don't really want to except just £2500. I'll shove it in ebay and biketrader for £3k and see what happens. I can always drop it if it doesn't sell.

Surprised I'm suprised, they've kept the design extremely similar over all these years.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but does the <2000 TT not have something of a tarnished reputation? It may hurt when coming to selling it.

Parkers tell me 3090 is the sort of price for one in great nick. Pessimistically, I'd knock £500 off that for your final selling price, now. My first figures were off by a fair bit. Rolling Eyes

Probably best to poke Colin Wall and Marjay as they have more idea of prices.

However I would doubt you will get that much for a 2000 model TT600. Think Marjay paid about that much for a late model one with a very low mileage, and when I have kept an eye on TT600s on Ebay they have been remarkably cheap (commonly went for £2k on Ebay when I was looking).

All the best

I agree, the cold and wet weather is such a put off, Im hardly using the RD at the moment, Im catching bus into town etc. I just hate riding it at the moment, thats why Im considering selling my bike too, getting a car, keeping the RG, and getting a larger bike in April or something.

I'm looking for £3.5k for my 2004 Daytona 600, so I think £3k is a bit rich for a TT600. Just me though.

Why not keep the bike and get a cheapish car? If biking is in your blood (and I'm sure it is) then you will be gutted when the warmer weather comes....

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

A lot of Daytona 600s are going on the market at the moment as owners move on to the 675. I think that will affect the TT600 price as it's seen as the older brother of the Daytona 600

I've got a cheap Nova which I just bought to teach the girlfriend how to drive. So transport in the bad weather's not a problem. It's just that I don't enjoy biking at all during the winter - and 6 months every year is a long time to not enjoy your hobby.

I've still not 100% decided what to do. I'm gonna leave it for a bit and see if I still feel the same way after a few weeks.

Hmmm difficult decisions I know, but having a hobby for at least 6 months that you love doing has got to be better than giving up completely... Maybe a season away from the bike will give you that itch again (no not that itch Wink )

I only started riding in October last year so yet to have the joy of riding in the summer, ridden pillion mind. Been riding almost every day so far, yes it is cold and bitter some days, I did wonder if I was doing the right thing taken my test in winter, was worried about catching an icey day but as luck had it I was fine, it was worth 40mins of freezing my tits off to get the pass that I so badly wanted, just looking forward to warmer days now.
Throughout winter so far I have seen at least one bike every day on the road so there does seem to be a fair few of all weather riders out there.
Had a bmw up til October last year, it was my baby but got bitten by the bike bug and never looked back since, nice cars dont interest me anymore and I still get to drive each day for work Thumbs Up

Wrap up warmer?
I've actually been quite enjoying commuting 50miles a day on the bike, which is probably a bad thing.
I don't tend to do road riding for fun that much these days anyway, admittedly.

You could always look at getting a cheaper bike come summer (say a £1k 400?) so that you've got the best of both worlds.

It's not the cold that bothers me. I don't really feel the cold that much. I only use the bike for fun anyway (I live just around the corner from my work, so don't need to commute anywhere). The main usage it gets nowadays is when I go to the gym before work. It's a pain when I get to the gym having to change out of all my leathers into my gym gear, then change back when I've finished my training session, then change back again when I get to work, then change back after work, then change back again when I get home (I'm getting dizzy just typing this! Wink). If I was driving to the gym, I would just go in my gym gear. It's also a pain getting the bike out of the back garden. It would be nice if I could leave it on my front drive without fear of theft. When I first got the bike, I did lots of riding 'just for fun'. I'm finding that I'm just not doing that anymore. I agree that I may regret it come summer though. Anyway, enough moaning from me - I don't want to put anyone else off biking!

That's not a bad idea actually. I might look into that! Smile

Not so much a winter thing, but I'd also look at some trackday if you haven't done any yet. Watch out, they're addictive!

It's more like 9 months and IMO that's plenty long enough to enjoy it.

In all honesty, I'm thinking of doing the same. For a couple of years.

Buy the bandit, do a small tour of europe, sell it and leave bikes for a few years. Don't want one on the street and need to save money.

Dan, since I started doing trackdays I go weeks without riding my bike. Like you I've only got my GSXR for fun and after doing trackdays it's difficult to find much fun in sitting at traffic lights, dodging blind Corsa drivers and banging trough potholes!

Like G said, if you do get rid of your Triumph get yourself a cheap sports 400 then at least you can still still ride it when you want on the road and have something to rag around a track. Otherwise you'll sell your bike as thw weather gets better and then be gutted everytime you see a bike blasting past your house!

Must admit , I hate winter riding also, just do about 10 miles a week, to keep it running, even then salt gets to it.

I don't mind not riding though, as soon as salts gone and a bit warmer i'll be commuting again.

What made it worse, is I recently had to travel to Harrogate (about 28 miles from me), this was for about a week. Anyway this took me 2 hours in the car each way, absolute knightmare. I know if i'd been on bike I could have done it easily in 45 minutes. (On a weekend on bike , I could do it in 25 mins).

I know how you feel about winter riding, but is there no way you can afford both?

Personaly i'm not too fussed about cars (along as they have air con & fit 3 kids), currently saving for new car, but my just spend money on new bike. (What would neighbours think Y reg car on drive & a 06 bike). hmmmmm

I could afford both, but I'm trying to put as much money away for a deposit for a house, so I need to prioritise. It's not that I can't afford a cheap car aswell - it's just that if I'm getting rid of my bike, I want to get a more sporty type car as a hobby (which will obviously cost more - and the house deposit is more important than having both).

However, I've actually decided to keep hold of the bike for another year. As a few of you had said, when summer comes along, I'm going to really regret selling it. So you all won't be getting rid of me that easily!!! Very Happy
