Sometimes a little injection of carb cleaner down the plug holes can do wonders for an engine which doesn't want to start, or at least it will narrow down the problem to the fueling . Have you had the tank up lately or anything? If you had trapped or kinked a fuel line it would have problems starting.
If it isn't turning over at all, a freshly charged battery might be what it needs. If it isn't turning over even with a freshly charged battery, it's entirely possible that said battery is gubbed. Do you hear the relay clicking or making funny whining noises? If not, try a different battery that you know is good. If that still doesn't work, try shorting across the relay to effectively connect the battery to the starter directly.
The engine ran for long enough to suck more fuel into empty carburettors last time I used carb cleaner on my VT spark plug holes. Anyway, my bet would be on the battery or fuel line/ filter. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

I am having similar trouble with my RS. The starter motor would spin up but the cog wouldn't engage the flywheel properly. The starter cog would spin but not lock into place and just chip itself. Eventually, the motor gave up and rotated very slowly just before the electrics packed in. When I removed the tank to observe the damage, it turned out the positive terminal had melted (anyone tell me why?)
At this point I unplugged the starter motor and tried to bump start a little but to no avail. I'll try knocking her into first and try using a different spark plug. I think the problem lies with the battery not having enough charge to supply the motor with a large enough voltage to overcome compression. As the positive terminal is half melted anyway, I have bought a new one that has not yet arrived but I think it would be worthwhile to take a look at the starter motor as well.
Does your problem resemble mine? ____________________ Past: Aprilia SR 50, Aprilia RS 125

the problem is
1. its an aprilla
2. it a 2 stroke
3. its itallian
You shouldnt have to bump start it at all, get your self a battery optimiser
The terminal would only melt if a fuse failed or faulty wiring
unless youve replaced it with the wrong terminal (i doubt that)
Check for spark if there no spark 1st battery (as said) then you ant to check your HT lead using an Ammeter its should read i for infinite
Either that or just take it too a mechanic |
