my insurance was due to end on the 22nd of january, but come the 23rd no renewal notice still - by this time i had renewed with carole nash anyway so thought nothing of it!!!!
anyway - today i get some new policy documents from bennetts!!!!
i had not received the letter saying how much it would be and it said that my insurance would continue with AXA through bennetts from the 22nd of Jan!!!!
it also said they had tried to take payment and it was unsuccessful!!! NO SHIT!!! it wasn't in the account!!!!
so i rang them saying that they had no right to renew my policy without my authorisation and for them basically to shove it!!!!
their response was that it wasnt their fault i hadnt received the letter and had continued to renew it anyway!!!!
she then said that almost all companies do this - i haven't known this - most letters for renewal normally say that if they are not contacted to renew the policy it will end and thats that!!!
WANKERS - anyone else had this problem with any other company????? ____________________ R6 has been sold - 2004 Honda VFR VTEC now sold too - no bike at the moment |

They want a good slap for trying to make unauthorised withdrawals from your account. Unless you had some odd arrangement with them, you had a contract for them to provide 12 months insurance. After this point the contract is at an end.
Check your statement, if you have been charged for a failed transaction, kick up a stink.
Make sure you tell your bank to cancel the direct debit mandate to them if they are up to that sort of crap (assuming you were paying by DD), there is a good chance they might try again. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Yep, I had this with my car insurance with Tesco. They sent a renewal letter through, but I'd found it cheaper elsewhere. So decided to ignore it and not contact them to renew. Anyway, two month after the end of the policy I check my bank statement and see they are still taking money!!! So I phone them and ask them what the hell is going on. She tells me to read the renewal letter, so I did.
In the 'quite small' print at the bottom, it states that if you do not phone them and tell them NOT to renew your policy (ie: ignore the letter) they will automatically renew it for your anyway (how nice of them!).
To be quite honest, I think that its a f***king joke. I told her I wanted to cancel it as I never asked for it to continue. She then trys to tell me they have to charge for cancellation, at which point I laugh out loud, tell her there is absolutly no chance of that, and hang up. I got onto the bank, cancelled the direct debit and never heard from them again (over 3 years ago now).
I tried arguing that I had originally signed a direct debit for 10 months with them and that they had broken the agreement by continuning to take money after that period. But she was having none of it, saying that cause I hadn't contacted them they just carry on, and its all stated on the renewal notice.

Hi,
Its quite common and you often agree to a continuous DD or credit card payment (its in the small print)
However last year for my bike I did not geta letter and it did not get renewed, it was a few weeks before I thought my insurance is up soon.
These days you have to make sure you read everything really carefully, can cancel DD as soon as your done with them.
Regards

I think this is an issue that needs bringing to the attention of the Financial Standards Authority. I would be absolutely fucking livid if a company tried that with me. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I had a policy with bennets that ended in 2004, i sold my bike and phoned them for a quote for a new bike....MCE turned out cheapest at the time and i told bennets to cancel my current one as i dont have the bike and i told them i had a new one, they said either we insure your new one £1600+ or pay a cancellation fee £100 and odd.
I laughed at the lad and told him to stop being silly, he just said no really thats our policy, i told him to get fucked hung up and redialled. I got told the same thing from another woman and she was reluctant to help. I redialled once more and got through to a lovely lass (she sounded hot too ) and she said that they as a company have no earthly rights to do this and she will complain on my behalf about the last two i spoke to, because she had to deal with it. She cancelled with immediate effect and they never took another penny I wish i could have taken her for a drink ____________________ My eBay Items |

I don't actually mind them doing this as after ringing around for years for a cheaper quote, it's normally the same company time and again that's cheapest for me.
So if they just carry on, it means I don't have to try and organise new insurance or more importantly speak to anyone about it for years. |
