tapping into headlight relay?

could someone point me in the right direction for information.

i have heated grips on my bike now, and im scared of leaving them on and draining the battery. so i want to wire them into the headlight/ignition wiring so that it only comes on when the ignition is on.

how do i do this?
i have a wiring diagram for the cbr, but im not sure what wires i want to use and what i want to do with them..

You obviously need a feed that's only live when the ignition is turned on. Horns or brake lights are usually the easiest to splice into.

I've an 01 - 03 CBR 6 manual and it looks like white with green tracer is favourite

Run it to the rear brake light switch wires, it's a positive feed and will turn off when ignition is switched off. Thumbs Up

If you decide to tap the rear brake light switch, do so _before_ the switch! Otherwise, the grips will only heat up whenever you apply the brakes!

haha yea, musttest wires to make sure they are live before i cut them anyway lol

Don't cut any wires. Get yourself a piggy-back terminal and connect in using that. This avoids damaging the original loom. You can then easily remove the grips if you want to leaving everything as it was before.

You want a single throw relay and an inline fuse. Run your 'heavy' wire from the battery positive, through your fuse to terminal 30 of the relay. Attach the heated grips to Terminal 87.

Terminal 86 connects to earth. Terminal 85 connects to your 'switching' input (eg brake light switch/flasher relay).

Spend some time planning where the wires are going to go (ie. not near anything hot or where they will get rubbed) and where you are going to put the relay (ie. somewhere out of the weather).
