Get a certificate/dyno. Even if you take them out, you still need your certificate. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

Aparantly certifcates are not a legal requirement, although some insurance companies request it. F.I will shaft you £150 for essentially 4 washers and a piece of paper. Legally all you need is 20p worth of metal the same shape and size.
By law your bike must be <33bhp if you have had your license less than two years and took the test before your 21st birthday.
Newer bikes can have throttle restrictions or CDI restrictions. Older bikes have washers in the carbs. Technically speaking anyway is legal as long as its correct power. I reckon dynoing a 4cyl 60bhp bike with 2 HT leads disconnected is legal |

So long as you arent going around at 160mph you're hardly going to attract enough attention for them to think it isnt restricted. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

My insurance company requested a photo copy of my restriction certificate issued by the garage that fitted it before issuing my insurance certificate, they were happy to send me just the cover note so as I could pick up the bike mind
A sticker is also placed inside underneath my seat to say its restricted in the case of ever being pulled over. If I were to get the bike derestricted my insurance will not be valid in the event of an accident if based on speed, not sure I want to chance it although I know many bikers do ____________________ Live on the Isle of Wight and ride a CBR600F |

When i came off my ZXR 250 (Not restricted, although i had certificate from previous owner) the traffic police where called to cover over the mess from my bike (oil etc)
They asked the usual stuff, asked me how long id been riding (just curious i guess?) and i said a month. They gave me a producer for MOT, insurance and somthing else but didnt mention restrictions at all.
They were friendly too  ____________________ || Past: 1991 Kawasaki ZXR 250 ~ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1999 Yamaha R1 ~ 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R J ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1998 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm ~ K1 GSXR 600 Track bike ~ K6 GSXR 1000 ~ 2006 Speed Triple 1050 || Current: 2005 R1 https://www.adrucore.co.uk |

So do I chance it later then being de-restricted, how many of you here ride non restricted bikes when you should be?? When I took mine away from the garage matey there even said that most take them off once they get down the road! I've always been such a good girl ____________________ Live on the Isle of Wight and ride a CBR600F |

I'm 18 and have ridden restricted and unrestricted.
When 17 I had a 600 that I bought restrictors for and installed them myself. I was paranoid that I'd get asked about the power at some point (through inexperience) so I got a dyno done and the bike came out at 27bhp. I kept the graph at home just in case. That evening I took the restrictors out.
My reasoning was:
a) if I get pulled over for whatever reason there's no way the police are going to take the bike and put it on a dyno,
b) if I have a crash the bike isn't going to be in a condition to be dynoed so how will insurance company ever know?
c) i spoke to a traffic cop I know and he thought rider's under 21 were restricted to 400cc (I didn't correct him )
I would say the main reason to get insurance would be to get tax because it'll be more of a headache (I've only ever been pulled over once because I only taxed it recently and police's database hadn't been updated).
I now ride a ZZR400 and have never bothered to restrict it. It's been dynoed at 45rwhp. I usually ride sedately, with a pillion, and I can't see any reason to restrict it. I've had three ins policies on larger bikes and have not been asked for any kind of proof of restriction ever. |

17, had license since October, never been restricted
Had to show both parts of license down the police station after spill on 250, the woman wrote down all she needed and gave it back.
Im pretty sure it says on the license (paper part) <25kw or somthing, so it was there if she wanted to say anything... ____________________ || Past: 1991 Kawasaki ZXR 250 ~ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1999 Yamaha R1 ~ 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R J ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1998 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm ~ K1 GSXR 600 Track bike ~ K6 GSXR 1000 ~ 2006 Speed Triple 1050 || Current: 2005 R1 https://www.adrucore.co.uk |

Sorry to bring this back up, but I've just noticed it.
| ancientd wrote: | Sorry to say but you are way off there. Insurance companies are not controlled but the Road Traffic act, and it is totally up to them whether they cover you or not. |
I was not talking about you being covered, I said that the third party would be covered by your insurance, which is what the insurance company must do under the RTA. I'm one of the poor sods whose job it is to try and find a way to avoid paying out on insurance claims, and we can only try and "pass the buck" onto another insurance company. For example, if I ride your bike, and damage their car, and it's my fault, your insurance company will have to pay for the TP damage, as the bike is covered by your insurance. This however, would also result in your insurance company in chasing me for the payout, and me being prosicuted for riding with no insurance. HTH.
Best place to learn about insurance, is the pub. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |
