Wonder id someone can help me out. i brought a few clothes last weekend. got the jacket out the other day and a security tag has been left in the pocket still attached to the jacket.
the shop i brought it from is 180 miles away so i can't get it removed there. my next action is to take it to a random shop and get it removed but wonder if anyone knows an easy way of removing them?
Cheers

That should do the trick.

No in all seriousness, take it to a random shop, department store and show them receipt and tell them you need it removing. They will be able to do it without any risk of damaging the jacket itself.

Someone here asked the same question a few months ago. Have a search and you might find it.

Cant you use a paper clip or coat hanger on certain types of them to release it as thats basically all the thing they use has. Just a thin bit of metal pushed in the hole on the side of the clip. I may be totally wrong or it might be a different type of tag but it might be worth looking at first.

No they're all magnetic these days; in fact without the proper equipment it's virtually impossible to remove them without leaving a hole, which would be at minimum half a centimetre in diametre. You could hack it off, but chances are you'd damage the clothing doing so.

See if there's another branch of the store close to you, and take the receipt with. If not, be cheeky and try a different branch.

If you don't have the receipt you might be screwed, as they'd all think you nicked it.

I'll 2nd that action, a strong enough magnetic should release the tag from the pins. Thumbs Up

Define strong enough? If there was an easily obtainable, pocket-sized magnet which could get these off, they'd be redundant for shoplifters, wouldn't they?

Two forks to lever the tag apart are supposed to work.

Never tried it myself.

I posted this a while ago, had one left on one of my ralph jackets.

Can you get a picture of it? Some are liquid tags so when you remove them they leak ink.

If its just grey then i used a screwdriver and prised the pin out as much as i could (only about 5mm Laughing ) I then hack sawed the pin off. Worked a treat and you can't tell at all it happened. Thumbs Up

You need a magnet which is big enough to cover the back of the pin, as well as strong enough to grip it and pull it out (used to work in Topshop and Marks and Spencers - lots of clothes tagging etc). You can rip them out with force i.e. forks, pliers, but you do risk leaving a visible hole in your clothes.

Generally though, another shop wont remove something which isn't their product/ responsibility. It's very easy to forge a receipt and most stores wouldn't waste their time checking a rival shops customer out. We were never allowed to, as mean as it sounds.

A magnet from a large speaker might do the trick. Otherwise it may not be too difficult to wind a decent electromagnet of your own to power from a car battery, it'd be good for the amusement if nothing else. Smile

those ones use a curved pin that slides into the tag and releases the catch. they aren't magnetic.

The pins are hardened steel, be casreful when hacksawing them as the blade will slip, and gash the fabric

Same has happened to my girlfriend. She discovered the other day that a jumper she bought 4 weeks ago has still got the tag on it. She's got the receipt, but worried what the shop will think as she's taken so long to notice!
