This may sound a bit morbid but a few weeks ago I got thinking about rideouts and who you normally go out for blasts with. Sometimes its just a bunch of local lads (or lasses) that you happen to know through biking, but mostly (for me anyway) its normally me and my best mate.
A thought keeps crossing my mind that if anything bad (touch wood) is to happen to my mate then the first person on the scene is going to me. Thats slightly worrying.
Due to my job I am a trained first aider but to be honest I would go to pieces having to help someone close to me through a critical time waiting for an ambulance. Have any of you ever thought of this? If so how many of you are actually trained to deal with this sort of thing?
Just a weirf thought I had

I went on a rideout and my mate binned it about 10 meters in front of me. Was difficult not going into the back of him, but as it was dusk the showers of sparks didn't half look impressive .
We picked his bike up and checked the damage and an off duty copper turned up on his firestorm and directed traffic around us . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

just left my mates house with another mate both of us on peds come up to a junction our right of way im indicating to go left down it some dippy bitch in a corsa pulls out 5 meters in front of my mate, he goes through her driver window and i just shit it. went over loads of other people there already with my mate so i moved his ped out the way went up to his house to get his parents saw him off into an ambulance and then went home very steadily and slowed down to pathetic speeds at every junction.
he's chuffed though he got £4,000 comp and the insurance company ignored that his ped was de-restricted

We've done a basic first aid course at work last year, and been told that there's a more advanced one available later this year.
Still not 100% sure if I'd be able to put the training into practice in an emergency though ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

When I was on the scooter me and a mate were riding around at about 9:30. It was pitch black and my mate had a very dark visor on his helmet.
His scooter was derestricted so it was faster than mine. We were driving down some back road we had never been on before and got onto a hill. He was going down it full speed (near 50) and at the bottom there is a very tight right then left corner.
He's a fair bit ahead of me and all I see is his tail light darken into nothing. Needless to say he didnt see the warning sign and went straight into a ditch. It was a lot of nettles, bumpy mud, exercise bike and a gate.
As soon as I saw the light go out I knew what had happened straight away. Quite horrible having to run into a ditch in the pitch dark trying to find your friend by his screams alone.
Got to the ditch, he was lying there moving a bit. His visor was gone, helmet pretty bashed up. I got him to the side of the road and got his helmet off. He wasn't in good shape.
Neither of us had a phone on us and I didn't have a clue where we were. Ended up digging his scooter out of the ditch to see if it would go. He said he was able to ride it so after a while we got going. We were about 4/5 miles from his house driving at 15mph, me constantly checking my mirrors to make sure he was alright. He looked like he was really pissed.
Got back to his safely and got his mum and step dad. Mums a nurse, dads a biker. Got an ambulance round and off to hospital he went.
He suffered 2 broken ribs, punctured lung, tendons in his leg were torn and other things I'm sure.
Not a great night but a learning experience anyway.
Don't ride with a really black visor at night. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

Ive always thought i would end up being the one shouting at people to leave the fucking helmet on, and growling at the other driver.
I remember when i binned it infront of my mate stu (not serious), he ran off and sorted out my bike while i scraped myself up. He then buggered off to find bodging materials etc.
Legend.
But yeh if i went down, and i was in a group of 3, id be abit miffed 3 stayed to help me and no-one chased up the driver that offed me (if it was there fault). ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

well i have come off once infront of a friend, (seriously anyway) and i had come off at 80mph, stupidly in a t-shirt, i just got up and asked him to pick my bike up as my arm was a bit cut and i broke my wrist. the kind fella went and got my mam who took me to hospital .. its all good, i'd really be screwed without my mates. I came off on my own another time at similiar speed and got a lift home off a random car driver, my mate the absolute legend as soon as he heard he went straight over, jumped on the bike, started it up and rode it home with no gear lever or clutch lever (god knows how), even after the front wheel had misterously locked up at 75ish. brilliant when you have someone out there who will help you in those kind of situations. I was busy in hospital on the bed getting my knee scraped out ____________________ Derbi supermoto with cr500 engine, niceee |
