just seen jordans plate and am 'considering' having a small one line plate

as yet ive NEVER been pulled touch wood, even with a almost half a standard plate (two lines)

is it worth the attention i may get for the small plate

Do it if you like but it's £30 plus having to change it if you're caught.

One line plates just draw more attention to you.

I'd prefer to have a little extra bit of leeway in some situations dealing with the police etc.

Also, it's common courtesy in my opinion - plates are there so that all and sundry can see who you are.
If you shouldn't have a readable one, why should that chav who's going to run into your friend next week, then drive off? I'd want them to get stopped for their plate before anything such as that happened.

Firstly how far do you travel? If its just local then you will probably be fine, my 400 had a small plate that was horizontal which meant if you were behind me it looked almost flat.

I also lived near a police station and was ok. I think you will be ok if you are always local and know there aren't alot of traffic police about. Thumbs Up

in one way it makes you're bike look slightly better on the other hand you're a bit done for if you get pulled.

I have a teeny one, probably the same as jordans.

Never seen the point, may as well chuck it in the bin to be honest. Waste of moeny and I was a copper, I'd pull you and slap a ticket on you no bother. Smile

Bastards! I bet they still would have tried to do you if it was on your drive!

I reckon dinky plates look way better, but to be honest, i'd just downsize my 2-line plate a little, and try and mount it more discretely.

A favourite american way to mount it is just infront of the hugger down near the rear shock. That and on the side of the swingarm - but that would just be daft on a sports bike.

another problem with a small plate is that it'll fail the MOT now.
best stick with standard size...
luckily my bike came brand new with a small plate! Laughing have to get it changed soon though, because my first MOT is approaching.. Rolling Eyes

If you believe what MCN print then the Police are going to start issuing £60 fixed penalty and 3 points everytime you get caught.

Not worth the risk IMO Thumbs Down

You don't see it when you ride anyway, and I ain't risking more points on my license so my mate behind me thinks it looks 'cool' Laughing

I'm going to switch my Duc back to a normal numberplate when I get a chance, never had a problem as yet, but there's always a first time. Thumbs Down

ive got a 8x6 on mine as when i put the new undertray on the 9x6 "just" fitted and looked really wierd, the 8x6 fits nicely

i think 8x6 is ok but 1 liners (9x1) are just shouting "pull me" at least with a smaller 2 line one they police officer might have to look to see if its right size Thumbs Up

I dont think its worth it but then again i use my bike a lot, if you use it now and then you could be fine Thumbs Up

8 x 6's look subtle - as a comparison, my ZXR 250's rear end looked much tidier with an inch off the plates and doesn't stick out much in the wind. Nothing wrong with your current plate Ric as it works with the bike. I'd be inclined to say get a 7 x 5 as i've seen it on James' R6 and it does make it look neat but the numers are small.

I'd say, you'd get away with an 8x6 plate.

Can't see the point in mini number plates. By putting one on your just giving the fuzz a reason to pull you over and give you a fine. Its not like it makes you go any faster or anything!

I've had 8X6 plates on my previous couple of bikes and not had a problem, even had traffic police comment on my witty Confused number plate slogans and not have any issue with the size. As long as it's clearly legible they generally aren't worried I reckon.
Those tiny one line plates though are just asking to get you pulled, and whilst at it they'll almost certainly check over your bike for tax, cans etc. Not worth it.

I know its different, but my dad just got done for having a small plate, all he got is £30 fine and producer. I dont know wehn this opoints thing was meant to start, but IMO, its bull!

Small plates look wicked, but it depends on what your local plod are like.

Lincs cops are ok, but yorkshire cops are w@nkas! Evil or Very Mad

A lot depends on where you ride and how often, i have a daft plate on my nsr but know where the police are likely to be and avoid those areas, and touch wood havent been pulled since i got banned in 1992. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Although to be honest i probably only do 2000 miles a year max as the bike is only a weekend toy these days.

I was riding with no plate for a while where it had blew off on the way to Snetterton. A BCFer pointed it out, was Gazdaman I think! Wasnt stopped once. Probably as I was no more than a blur for the time it was off.

I think any look good. Very small looks nice and 'sleek' on newer bikes whereas the proper sized plates kinda ruin the lines often!
