I want to get a service done on my new bike. I got a quote of £150 for service which includes:
Oil
Oil filter
Airfilter
Spark plugs
also they mentioned about cleaning the carbs but not sure if thats extra (need to confirm)
Right I know you will say do it yourself, I know I could do it as I have done it on my old Honda 125 4 stroke but being a new bike to me I would like someone who knows what they are doing to do it. Also I think an extra stamp in the service book would be good.
Is it too expensive? or about right?
Thanks in advance ____________________ [Rides: Suzuki GSF600sx]

i know you don't want to hear this but DO IT YOURSELF!
Even if it is a new bike to you, doing the things mentioned is very simple indeed!
I did the exact same type of service on my bike a few weeks ago and the bits cost under £30 and it took less than an hour.
Replacing plugs, very simple - Remove fairing (if applicable), remove old plug, replace with new one, rinse and repeat.
Remove old oil - Make sure engine is warm, locate sump plug. Remove sump plug carefully and catch old oil in suitable reciptical. Replace sump plug (and washer if applicable).
Oil Filter - Locate old oil filter, unscrew and have something to catch any dribbles of oil, get new oil filter, offer the top of it up to the old one to rub a bit of oil on the top seal, screw on to bike (not too tight!).
New oil - Add correct amount of oil as per handbook, run engine for few minutes, let oil settle, check oil level in viewing window/dipstick, add more if necessary.
Air filter - locate air box, remove any screws holding lid on, remove old air filter, insert new one, replace lid.
Job done and £120 saved! |

Quick question:
When buying spark plugs do they come with the correct gap or does this need to be set? ____________________ [Rides: Suzuki GSF600sx]

I would like to do it my self though in the privacy of my own garage one day
Maybe get a project bike to learn on

I know what you mean about not having your own garage
I don't have to work in the street though, we have a private carpark so if its nice outside its not too bad.
Thats why its tempting to hand over £150 and be done with it ____________________ [Rides: Suzuki GSF600sx]

Right I am doing it myself.
The weather is so crap so have stopped.
So far I have taken out old spark plugs and put new ones in.
Drained old oil (haven't put new in yet)
New oil filter
Taken the battery out and is on charge
What I need to do when its nicer weather:
Put oil in
Air filter
Drain old fuel from tank
Drain fuel from carbs maybe clean them depending on condition
Add new fuel
I bought so carb cleaner additive so add that to fuel
Put battery back in
Put grease everywhere
Slowly getting there just weather thats holding me back ____________________ [Rides: Suzuki GSF600sx]
