I lost my disc lock and noticed Big Bike Book are selling the:

OXFORD ENIGMA DISC LOCK £61.99

Now £39.99

"The ultimate disc lock is approved to the highest standards by Sold Secure and Thatcham - insurance discounts are available as a result"

Anyone got one? Worth the cash?

Consider getting a Grip Lock:

https://www.pjbsecurity.fsnet.co.uk/products/disclocks/pjb706.htm

I've got one and it works a treat, and you can't really ride away without taking it off!

It also bleeds your brake system if left on for a while, so be aware when you use your brakes after taking the lock off...

I bought an oxford monster chain and enigma disk lock off ebay for £53, both these are brand new and thatcham approved. The padlock is absolutely massive so no one will ever nick your bike but before you buy from riossi have a look at ebay as there is a bloke on there that must work for oxford products (sihall2000) as he is always selling oxford security (he currently has 2 monster disk locks at £29, This is the new improved enigma by the way).

If your worried he might be dodgy, he has a rating of 1626 !

I got an Oxford Monster off him for £40, took a while to arrive but it's a £180 chain I believe. I use a disclock when I park at college, I don't forget it usually, sometimes I do, but I always park nose in so I don't ride off with it on.

I'm always a bit worried with those locks someone will just cut the brake hose Confused.

It doesn't actually bleed it as such, it does compress the fluid, which hels air bubbles to join/rise.

It doesn't touch the clutch... and if it did, it'd make it worse because it would be holding it in Confused

I'd also wonder why that was there and probably yank it till it comes off, lol.

Almost as comical when i left the bike at college and came back to see two walkers crips packets on the wing mirrors. oh i wish i had a camera for that one.

i meant if you put it on the other side of the bars, to save damaging your brakes

They can cut the brake hose anyway, or just push your bike over in frustration...it's a visual deterrent and could make thieves aware that your bike is actually locked.

I thought that the whole point of bleeding was to force air out/through the hose?

Eh? You can fit the lock onto either side of the bike, and there's a slider that you can adjust so the lever can be closer or further away from the handlbar. Even if you have a habit of holding in the clutch, you *will* notice a great big yellow thing getting in your way Razz

My point was that they could then steal it they cut the brake hose, which they couldn't with a disc lock.

I've allways thought of 'bleeding' as forcing fluid out of the nipple (thus bleeding because there's fluid leaking out Smile)

But *Why* would you want to fit it to the clutch? Okay, it would mean they would have trouble actually using the engine, but would mean they wouldn't even have to put it in neutral to push it away Very Happy

So what was your original point about then?

<addition>Oh, and fair point about cutting hose and nicking bike, but:

1.) If they're willing to nick the bike without brakes, then they've probably got a van (or suicidal) anyway, so a disc lock would be useless anyway in that situation.

2.) Unless the disc lock is very clearly visible, then there's that chance of the theives attempting to push your bike away, only to drop it once the lock hits the wheel or whatever.

If the van isn't right there it's a whole load more hassle and dodgy to carry the bike down the block then push it IMO

True, though.. I'm just thinking along these lines because a friend had an attempted theft on his disclocked bike by some pikeys... really knackered up the discs, but they didn't get the bike.

I can't be bothered with disc locks, even if you have a disc lock it is only going to take 2 blokes and a van to steal the bike

A disc lock should prevent your average pikey theft though Smile

Too bad you were not at the BMF show today, there were some mega cheap disk locks there and they were quality Oxford ones.
I would advise using a chain anyway, then it is much more difficult for them to push it into the back of a van Very Happy
