what the hell is making this noise of my vfr400 (the ticking noise you can hear) or do all of these bikes do it. the bikes running ok apart from a bog down if you fully open the throttle from first (gudders a bit) while doing this, apart from that its ok. note the carb hunting tho.

please help its driving me Evil or Very Mad

Can't listen at the moment.

However, the symptoms you describe I'd be thinking tapet (i.e as McGee said, valve) adjustment plus syncing the carbs.

Might not be the valves, might be the exhaust headers tapping, are the downpipes in good condition?

Sounds like valvetrain noise. It is in time with engine revs. A leaking exhaust joint noise tends to match throttle position.

You mean where the valves are Wink Very Happy.

Seriously, could you describe the noise as ticking - like a sewing maching?
(I have now listened and can't really tell on the poor PC speakers).
If so then I'd go with valve adjustment.

my old gsxr400rrsp made a similar noise when i had a hole in the downpipes

my mechanic said the noise i could hear was one of the pistons.

Don't think that's clutch rattle if that's what you mean.

I vote for the valves.

Laughing Thumbs Up Was thinking Blair Witch myself Wink

Noise is'nt too disimilar from the noise of my, god rest her soul, late ZXR before it got all fooked up.

Arrow Tip, if this noise still persists, dont under any circumstances rev the fuck out of the engine Wink

I'd go with valves too, does the VFR have quietening gears in the cam train as its a performance mod to remove them although I've never heard one with them removed the are supposed to make more noise.

Sounds like the starter isn't disengaging and it's being spun up. Other than that, i thought my bike sounds comical!

On that note, never put "comical" into google images search.

Question

I'd like to point out that i don't work on four strokes. Thumbs Up

Not related but I got a mitsibushi colt which valves are all messed up, it wont idle tidy and it wont pull of tidy, shudders not matter how much throttle you give it.

Also gets sh*tty mpg Confused

So maybe that is the proplem like I said earlier or your down pipes are farked.

How many miles has your bike got and has it had a major service and had them adjusted ?

that noise sounds scarily like my speedy 100 at the minute Shocked .. Ill record a sound and post it up tomoz cos its really pissing me off now since I cant find out what it is.. Very unlikely to be the same problem since my bike has nothing to compare against yours.. My bike has also feels like its lost a little power in the mid-range since ive replaced a worn belt and rollers in an attempt to cure the noise but that could be answered by the fact the rollers are heavier and the old belt im starting to wonder if it actually was a kevlar one... Im starting to think its worn/dry crank bearings else the clutch or piston is the only thing left that is constantly moving Confused .. Hoping its not the crank bearings but Im guessing Id know if it was?

could you describe it as shaking a bearing in a full spray can?
