So my radiator burst about 3 months ago and I fixed it with Rad Weld. I haven't used my bike much since but I don't want to be out a long run somewhere and it springs a leak again! So I was thinking of getting a second hand one to replace it with. There are a few on ebay:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350373527087&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160516293554&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110578391986&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220704315108&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

but it's hard to tell the condition of them.

Thoughts?

I know but it's a 20 year old bike so I'm not likely to find a good second hand one. A new one is about near to £300, which is more than I want to pay for one.

Second one looks about the best of a bad bunch. Could you not get the old one re-cored?

Take it to a car radiator repairer, it costs nothing to ask, so may be happily suprised

Think I'm buying the second one. How long do you think I'll get out of it? I know it's a bit of a hard question to answer.

Its an impossible question to answer.

Have you tried asking how much a repair would cost? I have no idea but it can't hurt to ask.

For example:

Hi
Ive used a product called CeLite a few timess on other peoples cars for leaky radiators, it looks like a small packet of metal filings, they are supposed to find the leak and plug it perminantly without turning the water brown and coating all you internals with crap that will eventually harden and break loose running the risk of blocking the cooling system. It was a while back the last timre i used it, it was about 80p i think, no one ever said it leaked after that, might be worth a try, most car shops have it.

I wouldn't be keen on buying a used one, you'd be better getting your own properly repaired depending on the nature of the problem.
In all fairness to anyone selling a used rad it's hard to know if they are entirely sound anyway.

I've never seen a decent used one on ebay, ever. I found a NOS one once that was a bargain.

Try looking up part. no's for later models, you'll likely find they used same rad on yours or other models right up to a 5/7 years ago - should give you more scope to find a better one.

You could try taking your rad to a radiator re-con place. You should have at least one local to yourself

They can usually recon any rad at surprisingly low prices, and in some cases the recon is of better quality than the factory part

Thanks guys. It's held up so far with the Rad Weld, but I don't want to be out one day and it starts leaking again....

I'll phone around a few places and see if they can give me an estimated price.

For a good price. That looks much better... I think?
