Some side panels.
Why the hell did someone not finish that project? It's clean as hell and 90% done. For that reason I'd be highly suspicious of the engine internals, but it's clearly a bike that's worth investing the bit of money into.

Nice Cool

That looks pretty much there and all the time consuming stuff looks to be completed, my fav colours as well, I like the series two LC's

What's the plan, resto or old skool? What's the state of the motor, looks like it's had some TLC from the outside? Matching numbers 4L0?

I'll be watching this with interest

I guess you probably know already but Norbo @ RDLCCrazy does loads of resto stuff for these, Yambits are pretty good too

Anyway, good luck with it, I'll be looking in.

That is one nice LC, looks pretty complete even the torsion bars are there. Just one thing, those mirrors have got to go.

You have the equivalent of a lottery win there - good luck with finishing it off.

The engine and VIN numbers are the same and start with 4LI.

This project belongs to someone that I know who does not have the time to complete the installation of the Stan Stephens rebuilt engine and other parts.I am not sure who did the wiring of those fuse holders but I will be making a far better job of it than that.

As for the mirrors.Well, they would not be my choice but as they were surplus to some other bike they were made to fit by the owner.

A few more pics

Those tyres are so skinny!!!

And so to the carbs. They had been vapour blasted by someone else and checked over by someone else again but I do not trust other peoples work so I thought that I would have them apart anyway

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture019.jpg
https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture020.jpg
https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture021.jpg

And glad that I have.Something wrong here I think

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture046.jpg

The float valves are like this, which could explain the differance in float heights

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture047.jpg

So,the carbs are now like this

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture022.jpg
https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/RD350LC%20Rebuild/Picture049.jpg

The fuel tap was seized and the owner had said that he was quite prepared to have to buy a new one,but it came apart okay and once the old fuel residue had been cleaned off everything it went back onto the tank without a problem.

I am now awaiting gaskets, carb rebuild kits, grommets, new keys etc so will keep this post updated as progress is made.

My dad had an XJ550 in those same colours (mars bar he called them) so his was basically identical apart from the motor, and though clean and tidy was really showing it's age compared to yours!

Shame the rear shock spring looks shite. Everything else has been tarted up, the spring lets the side down IMHO.

Word of caution when reassembling the carbs - make sure you don't mix up the float bowls. The left hand one has a drilling for the choke (How do I know that ? I bought one years ago and it would never start when cold - I had to remove the alloy connector tube between the carbs and squirt in some petrol - I lost patience in the end and ended up doing a full rebuild and it was still the same - eventually a kindly dealer (???) told me swap the bowls and your problems will be over - he was right !!)

Another thing to watch out for is make sure a thermostat has been installed in the housing on the cylinder head - it was a common bodge to let the bike run without one owing to the cost of oem replacements - not a good idea.

Here's a gratis picture of my old LC

https://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee135/warsteiner_yzf/RD350LC.jpg

Please feel free to throw insults, sh1t and derision at my poor taste in paint jobs Embarassed

Actually the LC never came with a thermostat, that only arrived with the later YPVS, although there is a thermostat housing it isn't machined to take the thermostat, the YPVS one can be made to fit with some machining to the housing but you shouldn't need it really

Right about the carbs though, that's caught a lot of people out over the years, me included!

Nothing wrong with the blue LC m8, that's how they all used to look Very Happy I quite like it!
