Just had my bike valeted and it has come back brand spanking even though it's 16 years old. It's a CBR600f. Just wondering the best way to keep it in the nick it's in now. What cleaning agents, polish, etc. etc. to use. And any useful tips that people have from experience.
Cheers

Put it in your garage until April 2015.

If you do intend to ride it, then apply ACF-50 all over and don't give a toss what it looks like until April 2015.

If its a piss take, its pretty classless. I'm sure you were new to bikes one time and asked stupid fucking questions. Hard to buy a new bike when you have family and a mortgage to pay

Are you having a go at me? I'm still new to bikes and i take advice from experienced people here on a regular basis and i also ask the stupid question from time to time.

I got a family too btw and i am just like anyone else here. anyway, been a real pleasure if you tell people to get fucked when replying to your questions.

Hmm, thread got a little sidetracked with abuse eh? Reminds me of what happens when me and CaNsA happen to have strong opinions about tech in other threads. Hehe.

Anyway, an attempt to get it back on track...

I don't clean my bike very often. Usually it gets done as part of the interval service (Divvy's coming up for a 6K, miles I do that'll be November time... 3,500+ miles in about two and a half months, jesus that's a lot). As the Divvy is pretty new and shiny - apart from the damn knee dent I put in the tank when I nearly dropped it early on - I've given it a clean recently. Just a handful of Clinell wipes (they're medical grade, they'll clean almost anything instantly) and ten minutes rubbing dirt off the swing arm and fairing etc with them made a big difference, and no doubt removed some of the salt that gets kicked up from the road too.

Anyway.

You need to make sure your chain doesn't rust = Clean it with petrol/diesel/wd40/some strong degreaser, wipe it down until there's no residue coming off and then let it dry off and apply a decent chain lube then let it sit a couple hours so it doesnt fly everywhere (I usually do it at night and let it sit overnight)

Every now and then I clean the gunk and road-dust soot and crap that get stuck in the brakes calipers. Also clean your brake discs. I use this halfords bikehut disc brake cleaner cause it's dirt cheap, doesn't leave a residue, and does the job. Also I had it spare lying around from when I was cleaning my mountain bike's very mucky brakes.

Change your oil.

Wash your bike if you want it to look all shiny. tis up to you when you do that. If you don't let it get mucky for very long all you need to do is wipe it down now and then. Sometimes when there's nothing to do at work I end up wiping my bike down. Also if you don't want the bodywork to have a shitload of micro-scratches everywhere careful what kind of cloth you use to polish it or wipe it down.

Grease necessary bolts that have dried up grease on them.

Oil any cables.

Dunno any other basic stuff, just thinking off the top of my head.

Almost forgot one, swap the bike over for a fireblade too.

Then swap that for a ZZR1400.

Then swap that for an MTT Turbine.

Then get an actual aeroplane.

Become a bird.

Become a swan.

Pic related.

Loool. Thanks for the detailed reply, that's what I was looking for! Also the RR will be the next bike I get after a year or 2's experience. Also I have my private pilots licence already, just no plane! Perhaps later on in life... Laughing

Bought a KLE500 last week (I like them Very Happy )

Bike obviously hadn't been cleaned in some time but did have a load of grime on it and very little rust so guess the previous owner probably used liberal coatings of WD40 or some such

Anyway, drenched it in muc off, left it 10 mins, rinsed it with a hosepipe and soft brush, dried it with micro fibre cloths, covered it in silicone spray, polished that off and then finished it with Mr sheen

Everything came up very nicely for about an hours work

All I need to do now is spray some mr sheen on it from time to time and jobs a good'un

Jonesy
