If it has an aftermarket exhaust fitted make sure it isn't blowing anywhere!

Make sure the chain adjuster on the rear hub isn't mashed from people abusing it with a hammer and screwdriver.

Also, similiar to what Maurice said, make sure there's a chain adjuster (honda c-spanner) if not, it's a good bargaining point for a price drop (they're not cheap).

Check the downpipes carefully too, if they're in bad shape they require the engine to be dropped to change!

Also ask if the reg/rec had been changed recently, they have a habit of dying and can take out the generator, if the engine starts but stalls when you switch on the lights, or hit the brakes (brake lights) then a new one might be required.

To add to that, if they've managed to wreck the stainless steel downpipes (never heard of them needing replacement), the bike is probably a dog anyway.

Why would you need to drop the engine to replace?

The connector pipe under the sump where the front down pipes meet the rest of the system is made of mild steel! these will corrode away over the years causing it to blow. Easy for a welder to fix but it's a arse getting the whole system off.

Make sure it's had the valve clearences checked and it's been well serviced.

There isnt alot that can go wrong with them if they're looked after

Check the spark plugs as they can be expensive.
See if its derestricted (from japan with a max box or simular)
Check the oil sump,i had fractures on mine which i had to get a new sump.
Tool kit will be very handy as would be a rear stand Very Happy

If theres a racing can ,ask he/she for the original as you will need this for the mot.

Edit.... Just read last post.. Doh ! ignore the restricted bit ! Wink
