Bikes are in the unforutunate position of having to bolt there tax disc to the frame where any chav or scumbag can nick it, I have just gone to my bike and realised that mine has gone Mad

The bike is in no road worthy state at the moment, but the fact of the matter is that its gone and I cant ride it should I want to Crying or Very sad .

What is the procedure for replacing it? Its due to expire at the end of October anyways, but I will need one sooner than that.

Anyone else lost theirs or had one stolen?

Personally I wouldn't bother. The police will know that the bike is taxed. Just get the new one when you need it.

It's usually just vibration. Having a relatively large mass secured only at the end of a tab is going to generate a fair bit of vibration. A trick I use is to tie a cable tie loosely around the tax disk holder to the bike. That way if the securing bolt vibrates out you won't lose the lot.

It also tells you if it's been stolen as vibration isn't going to snap a cable tie!

I must admit it was nt secured as tight as I would have wanted, I suspect the vibration route rather than the thieving scumbag route, although it would nt suprise me Rolling Eyes

Cheers for the help and advice guys Thumbs Up

Just in case any of you don't fancy a £40 fine.

There is a specific offence of not displaying tax, even if you have it. The fine is £40 and this applies if you are carrying it on you.

A particularly festidious PC ticketed me even though I had it in my pocket (I was in a foul mood and a little rude).

I've also been done the year before whilst parked in a bike bay in London (the dvla people check parked vehicles occasionally).

All this because my tax disc holder is the secure kind and I am too lazy.

Doesn't matter. You were still caught not displaying tax. There is no way you will get away with it should they decide to prosecute. Of course, if you are nice they may show pitty.

You have tax, and it would be unlucky that on a rare ride out that you will get pulled. Have you got long left on the tax?

When I first got the RS125 I was being a lazy bastard and did'nt bother to put the tax disc on. Anyway, got pulled over once upon a time by a copper and he's stood by the bike having a good old butchers at the tyre depth, chain etc and he didn't even remember to check the tax disc. Razz Dorset police are so lame. Laughing

The maximum fine for "Failure to Display" is, according to the discs pinned to my kitchen noticeboard, £200.

As you may have guessed, neither of my 'bikes has the disc displayed - I put my faith in ANPR being used to check, so I won't get stopped.

If I do get caught out, then c'est la vie - I'll just pay the fine.
