https://www.nsr125.com/derestrict.htm
This page refers to bikes from 1993 onwards so I'm not sure how much help it could be, but I'd imagine the principles are the same.
I'm afraid that although I own an NSR (125R - 2000) myself, it was derestricted when i bought it so i've not actually carried out the process myself.
In any case, I hope this is of some help to you, although as I say there may be differences in your bike's workings, so i'd wait for further advice before opening your bike up.
Best of luck whatever happens mate. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

There isn't any restriction on the sprockets on the NSR. For that matter there isn't a restrictor on a sprocket at all. The only way it would be considered as restricted is if the gearing was made lower by having a smaller front sprocket. This does not affect engine power but mainly acceleration and top speed. There is a trade-off you see, if you want higher top speed you must sacrifice acceleration and vice-versa.
As for the exhaust restriction, it will be inside the pipe when you take it off, it shouldn't be inside the engine exhaust port (as far as I know). The other restrictor will be on the opposite side of the engine between the engine head and the carburettor. (Usually a rubber pipe about 2 or 3 inches long.) There will be a plate between that rubber connector and the engine. That can be removed. Be careful not to remove the reed block though as that is an important part of the engine. (It has plastic 'flaps' on it that can be moved.)
Hope this helps ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

The ns isn't restricted the same way as the nsr. I used to have one and it would do 90ish with an after market system on (came with the bike).
Count the teeth on the sprockets to see if your gearing is the same as your mates. Thats the easiest way to see if your both looking at similar gearing.
I think your problem is probably going to be down to the fact your engine needs its rings changing though. How long ago where they done? ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!
