my chain rusted

Today I noticed my chain had rusted slightly.
I sprayed chain lube on it. Is it ok or not? Should I remove the rusted surface? If so, how should I do it?
I didn't think it rusts only in 4 months, and I was told once that I spray lube too much, I didn't spray intentionally but it was wrong.

You should have seen the state of my chain during the winter. Once I wasn't using the bike for a week and when I got back on it, you couldn't see a single bit that wasn't covered in rust on the chain. Yours is still in a pretty good condition compared to that.

To be honest I wouldn't worry about it too much, try to wipe off as much as you can, lube it, ride it, and it will be good as new. (well, almost) Oh and check for stiff links .

Give it a good scrub with some WD40 and a brush or a rag. Then wipe the WD40 off and put some more chain lube on

I wouldn't use wd40 on a chain.

It is only surface rust, give the chain a good covering with chain lube and take the bike for a ride. That should get rid of the worst of the rust

the gods will name you beast if you use wd40 on your chain. engine oil plenty good!

Paraffin and a toothbrush!

Then wipe it off with a rag

and a good spray with chain lube! should be fine after that

I debated wither or not to use WD40 to clean my chain, but after some research online I decided just to go ahead and do it.

Well the chain hasn't needed adjustment after fitting just a front sprocket. Everything else was fine so I bought a cheap front sprocket and thought it might give me a 1000 miles and my chain will die. Or it could last, and it seems to be lasting. I guess running with a Scot Oiler will help. I'd really recommend a Gold DID chain.

Now i know this isnt quiet the same thing but my BMX i used to get to work (fairly long ride with a biigg hill or two) has survived 2 years and after not using it over winter it was practically rusted solid!

Threw a bunch of old engine oil over it, kept turning the pedals and after a few days of riding, bobs your unkle, looks nearly new again (black oil acting as camoflauge maybe?) but still works just fine heh.

The sprockets on my nsr were worn something horric (thin and almost wavey (on a bike allegedly 7,000 miles old ), chain in about the same condition lol. New chain and sprockets, am looking at some wax as i only have the sprey outt'a a can stuff at the mo which cant be that great
