Alriiite.

I've had my monster for a while now. I bought it as a race bike, but with a V5. I've done a few trackdays and a couple of races on it. I also had it on the road with a daytime only MOT for a summer.

It's a good bike, not the quickest, but it handles and stops, and does sound quite good. I like it.

Only problem is it looks fucking horrid. Bright orange, tank and general lines of the bike do not "flow".

https://i45.tinypic.com/dcj6p.jpg

I'm also not a fan of the underseat pipe. Or the tank. Or the seat unit. Or the colour.

Eurgh.

https://i50.tinypic.com/15phlyh.jpg

Note the orange front wheel. This is now a gold one, I buggered the orange one. It's not so shiny, either.

The plan is;

Change the tank, seat unit, get a new link pipe made up and have a steep angled single side exhaust on the RHS, and fit some lights. Probably a standard monster headlight with a little cowl, cafe racer style. Ish.

To be continued...

Nice enough bike, but I can see what you're saying about the cosmetics...
Looks like a muscle bike engine and frame, but with Airfix plastics stuck to it Thumbs Up Wink

Right, seat unit first.

The 916 one is okay, but not what I want. I'll fit it with the underseat can for the MOT, and then take it off when I can get a link pipe made up to ditch the underseat pipe in favour of an RS125 seat unit and 'normal' pipe.

Here's the RS125 seat.

https://i49.tinypic.com/30htso2.jpg

Notice the frame rails stop it sitting properly. Not a problem because I angle ground the bastards off. Mr. Green

https://i50.tinypic.com/rrjq52.jpg

I had to butcher the buggery out of the fibreglass unit to make it fit, too. But I'm pleased with the shape.

Hi, will you be doing anything performance wise?
Lighter flywheel..Ohlins.ECU..that kinda stuff.
Or is it heading for the road?

Next up, that bulbous tank has got to go.

I've done a bit of research into other tanks, main difficult thing about the ducati's is the sheer size of the airbox. Anyway, found a 750SS tank, it arrived earlier today.

Cut off the front mount where the monster tank would sit (need to fabricate a new one for the SS tank, and find somewhere new to fit my ignition switch)

https://i45.tinypic.com/3023zp0.jpg

Note the red front mudguard, a 916 one.

Now, seat unit. For the MOT, the 916 one will be fitted, a la;

https://i48.tinypic.com/331fy37.jpg

But after, I shall adapt this one to eeeeet.

https://i48.tinypic.com/avnfag.jpg

That's all I've got at the time being. I'll update it when I do more!

It's already got an Ohlins shock, K tech springs, Full system, Ducati Performance Ignitors, and been dynojetted with an open airbox.

It's heading for the road, but I also want to have the option to race it again, so I can't do anything else engine wise, otherwise it wouldn't be eligible.

I see. ..What not even an Ohlins front end? Drooling
What about wheels? Are you allowed lighter wheels or is there a weight limit?

Keep posting the pics Thumbs Up

I actually loved it in the first photo! Love the orange, love the 916 seat unit, love the underseat exhaust. Only the headlight/cowling needed work imo.

But the RS125 seat unit does flow better.

And it's your bike, so you do what the fuck makes you happy!

Under seat exhausts are cool. Huge bannana shaped sections of down pipe poking out around and under look stupid.

I actually think it looks quite good with the new tank and the 916 tail, has a nice line running along the bottom of the tank and the seat.

I completely agree on the exhaust front. It looks like a homemade bodge, when in actual fact it's an MHP system.

I quite like the 916 tail with the SS tank too. But the 125 unit is so much slimmer, and as I'm ditching the underseat can, there would be a lot of empty space under the 916 one.

Il be keeping an eye on this one. Interested to see how it pans out.
I reckon if the dodgy front fairing was removed in the first pic, and replaced by either some street tripleish lights or a ktm duke style fairing/light unit - then all the panels and tank painted ducati red, with silver wheels it would of looked 'da bomb'.

Not keen on the rs tail at the minute but Im hoping it turns out cool.

Thumbs Up

Small update, as the 916 tail is staying for a little while, I gave it a very quick dose of guessed red paint. Doesn't look too bad.

I've taken off the gash front fairing too - should give a better idea of how it will look with a standard single monster headlight.

With the new tank the 916 tail looks better.

With the old tank, the RS125 tail looks better.

Woah! I didn't see this thread

Have you see this: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DR54-DUCATI-MONSTER-600-900-MV-LOOK-TRACKDAY-REAR-SEAT-/310112612146?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item483426ef32#ht_2900wt_930

MV Agusta tail unit made specifically for the Monster so it goes straight on Thumbs Up

With the exhaust maybe an SBK under seat system or stacked cans like the S2R?

Here's that tail unit, not a great pic but you get the idea:

Project looks good, look forward to seeing the end Cool

Here's why I don't like the 916 tail. From the side, it looks fine, but from the back it is far too wide for the 160 rear tyre. Just doesn't suit.

Plus there's no undertray or anything which just leaves alot of empty space, even more so when I junk the underseat can.

Here's how it stands now.

@ rac3r

The MV tail not only looks gash (you can still see the frame rails underneath, ghey) but it wouldn't be a bolt on for mine. I don't have a seat!

I've already got a remus carbon can, so all I need is a link pipe.

I agree that one looks crap but I was just trying to show the MV tail. It's a bit hit and miss, on some it looks good and with others it looks crap.

Example: Here it looks pretty good

https://www.simonvicki.co.uk/wheels_pages/_s4r_pages/S4r_stage_1.html

(click the different stages at the top)

As for cans, If I were to change my Termis I'd go for the Mivv's

Could you not get a new link pipe and keep the termi can?

Like your plans for it, think it will look really nice!

One question though, why does the from mudgard look like its been chopped after it passes through the forks (like its missing a fender extender?!).

Always had a soft stop for Monsters....
