im sick of the fazer looking like a pos, so i decided to take it all to bits and clean / paint / re-grease everything. ive got 9 days before the bcf bbq.

started by taking the rear wheel out.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02623.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02624.jpg

mmm.... nice.

then the swing arm, the pivet bolt pushed out with one finger, i smiled.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02625.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02627.jpg

then all the suspensiony kind of stuff

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02629.jpg

which left me with a pile of bits

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02635.jpg

then i took the tail unit off for painting

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02634.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02633.jpg

then i started cleaning and re-greasing.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02637.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02639.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02636.jpg

and this is whats left at the end of day 1.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02641.jpg

ive ordered new front brake pads, an oil filter and some renthal ultra lows.

TO DO LIST - BACK HALF OF BIKE

clean swing arm - DONE

clean suspension stuff - DONE

clean rear brake stuff - DONE

clean rear sets - HALF DONE

clean wheel

paint brake stuff

polish rear sets

paint tail unit

new numberplate

clean chain

clean sprockety areas

clean akward places on frame

then im going to de-pillionify it, by buying some pillion pegs and cutting them up, so as to leave only the exhaust hanger.

also, does anyone know what these are called, or where i can get them.

If you search for 'fairing push rivets' you should be half way to finding those bits.

Nice job on the bike BTW.

then a pile of old t-shirts to wipe everything clean.

on another note, does anyone know what to use to properly de grease the metal work before painting?

done some more today, had to get the whole bike back together as im riding to chester tonight.

back end is clean and kind of painted.

not the best job ever but its much better than an inch deep of grime and rust.

one of allymoss's mates came round cos his fazer was smoking blue from the exhaust, had about .75 of a litre too much oil in it lol.

anyway, i had a ride, his bike has 10 year old rubber lines and the brakes are awesome compared to mine.

i think it may be the pads, as his lever was the same hardness, but stopped much better.

also, i smacked my elbow on one of the pillion pegs and now it really hurts Sad

Forget that. Just use brake cleaner.

more done today Smile

shiny part turned up in the post.

renthal ultra lows.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02644.jpg

carbon ceramic brake pads.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02647.jpg

ultra lows fitted.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02646.jpg

what a massive difference that 60 quid has made, bike flicks left to right so much easier now, and i can 2 finger brake for everything but really fast stops.

also met kickstart and borrowed his chain riviter today, and i got to see the fabled garage. i felt warm inside.

hopefully more to come tomorrow (depending on post)

What's with the throttle cable routing? Is it catching on the tank when at the bottom at full lock?

do you mean that random thing outside of the rhs fork?

if so, thats the loom for the clocks, i only noticed it was wrong today when playing round there.

the whole front end is coming off for repainting in the next few days so its all going to be re routed and cable tied anyway.

i also noticed today, part of the steering lock (the piece of steel thats welded to the headstock) has been 'fixed' with a blob of weld, exept it hasnt been done properly, so it turns left too much. meaning the bar hits the wing mirror.

any quick fix ideas?

No, I mean the throttle cables that you have running over the top of your front brake master cylinder rather than underneath.

well, they actually go underneath now, like they were there, the steering lock wouldnt lock, cos of fairing interferance.

exept running underneath there like too long, and the throttle sticks at l/r lock.

anyway, all will be stripped tomorrow.

today i took the headlight fairing off to clean.

then i suddenly had an idea.

leave it off Smile

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02653.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02658.jpg

im waiting for someone to get back to me, whos got a headlight and some inidcators, that i gave them a while ago.

now doing over a ton is hard work, which should slow me down a bit.

also, bench grinders remove skin quite fast.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/respray/DSC02657.jpg

i also did the linking mod. connect 1+4 and 2+3 vaccum spigots with equil length pipe.

it idles so much better sounding now, and has way more low down torque, it also killed the viby patch at 5-7k woo hoo Very Happy

Does look good without the top fairing! Cool
You keeping that back or maybe sell it on? Whistle

Think the rectangle light would make a change from the usual twins. Thouht about doing it myself on the yzf.

Good job on the rest of the bike. Thumbs Up

This is interesting! Does it work on other bikes? Thinking

if theres interest i might sell it, however one of the lugs has broken where a previous owner dropped it into a garage wall.

all the mods im doing are deliberatly reversible, so i can put it back if it wont sell like it is.

im not sure, its kind of a reccomended fazr mod, especialy for the thou.
