Hello I have an old K9 P reg kh 125 2 stroke.

The problem is when I kicked her over the kick start snapped of the shaft that goes into the engine Sad

A bike shop told me some can be removed and a new one just slotted in but mine happens to be an engine out job to split the case.

Im bumping at the minute and was told to bump it in 2nd which seems to be working ok.

Anyone local to Coventry that knows how to do this job as I dont mind paying and supplying the tea Smile I have an indoor garage that can be used. If not I just have to bump her Smile

The bike shop quoted me £200 lol.

Another problem I had was the carb was blocked up with what looked like fluff when it was blown out with air, reassembled and she now pulls and runs without cutting out Smile

Anyway thanks for reading.

Cases need to be split.

What bit did you break exactly. Friend snapped the little flappy kickstart pawl(sp) inside and engine out, cases split etc.

I do believe this has the same engine as i fixed. If I'm correct, there is the magneto cover on the left, then the left and right engine case, then the clutch/kickstart cover on the right.

I don't believe it would be that big of job as all you have to do is take the kickstart lever off, take off the clutch/kickstart gear cover (to do this you'll need to disconnect carby cover, carby and rubber tube from airbox), replace the shaft or whatever needs raplacing, put back together. Oh and drop the oil before doing it. You can take the clutch/kickstart cover off without having to take the cylinder/head off.
200 pounds seems a bit deer to be honest.
Good luck Smile

Its the bit that just sticks out the engine for the kick start to clamp on to.

Im happy to just bump it as its easy enough. Maybe when I get some more knowledge I will attempt to fix or get it fixed.

Thanks anyway.

Coffee supplied mate Smile

I had to do exactly the same on my sons bike, must be a weak point. I've still got a spare kickstart shaft if you need one. £200 for a garage to do the work is probably about right. the shaft is probably about £50, + gaskets, 2-3 hours labour and new oil.

EDIT: I've just remembered that I actually managed to fix R kids bike without splitting the motor. That's why I've still got a spare shaft. Can you post a pic of the offending shaft on your bike? I might be able to have a look at it for you on my way home on Saturday.

Yes, It does seem to be a weak point ; I had a KH125 engine for a while that was going to go into a project bike.
The splined shaft that came out of the RH casing was sheared in two, just where you would put the bolt through to hold it.
It seemed to be enough to get a grip on a kickstart to push it over without a sparkplug, but I never tried it in anger in case it rounded it off.

They were a damn good bike in their day ; and I have fond memories as I sat my test on one (back when two stroke dinosaurs ruled the earth !!)

The old KH was rather nippy for it's day, 15hp standard I think. I had a nice metallic orange one which I swapped for a MBX50 and £200 for a bike for my stepson. The poor lad had it nicked and they sprayed it matt black over the perfect original paint Sad

I'd be happy to if Vincent isn't available. I'm a bit more local, willenhall. On some engines you only need to remove the clutch basket. Which is a piece of piss. Don't even need to drop the oil.
