I have a Honda CBF250 2007 that i have imported from Spain and i have gone through all the stages required to register it in the UK.

My final requirement now is to put the bike through Partial Vehicle inspection and a DVSA center costing £12.00.

The Partial test will only check the bikes speedometer shows MPH and the headlight aim is correct.

Currently the Speedometer is in KPH only as pictured below and the headlight is set up for use in Spain so it points at on coming traffic .

1.) So......... I am thinking as personally i don't mind the clocks showing KPH would i be able to pass the test by fitting a cycle computer with permanently lit up display capable of showing speeds up to 99MPH? The Max speed of the bike in the manual is 80MPH?

2.) Can i fit some form of stick on headlight deflector? Like the ones you get on cars? I can find any specific bike light deflector?

The sensible option and most expensive option would be to buy a UK spec headlight costing £50 ish plus fitting and find a crash damaged CBF250 and steal the MPH insert out of the clocks and replace my KPH insert that sits behind the speedo gauge. But that's a ball ache.

Its taken 20 different pieces of paperwork to try and get the DVLA to issue me with a V5 and 4 separate attempts applying for the V5 and each time i have had a response they have sent me a couple of different reasons why my application has been rejected.

I sent the first batch of paperwork off knowing it would not be sufficient and they gave me a list of bullet points stating what they needed from me. I responded with the correct paperwork and they decided that some of the paperwork i submitted on my first attempt was sufficient on the first attempt but when they received it on my second attempt it was now not sufficient. FFS!!! The same friken paperwork!!!

They have now done this 4 times which shows quite a bit of incompetence which has wasted a lot of my time.

Anyway.......... i just need to pass the partial inspection. Please help.

Stickers on the clocks is not MSVA compliant. Changing the beam of the whole headlight is also not likely compliant.

The bike was cheap and i read all the DVLA paperwork stating the requirements i had to complete before buying the bike. I was happy to accept that and follow the process and cost involved to register the bike.

I was not expecting the DVLA to be as slack as they seem to be with this type of thing. Its almost as if they do understand there own system which has wasted so much of my time.

I have £500 to play with before i would consider the bike as a bad buy TBF.

Several times. I have got bikes through the old system with a kmh speedo with no problems, but now on a newer bike it needs to go through msva, and that requires the mph markings to be permanent

aye, i agree with that. That was my initial plan with the speedo.

I might give the inspection centre a call and ask what they think is sufficient.

I am struggling to find crash damaged UK spec CBF Speedometers. I am keeping my fingers crossed that someone stacks there CBF250 soon. #truebikerspirit

There are people around who can supply a new face for the speedo. Note that technically to be UK legal it must show mph and kmh (although don't think msva test is quite that pedantic).

Should be able to find a headlight similar size and a bit of modification to the brackets and it'll fit.

Might be an opportunity to upgrade to a better headlight.

This. From the pics the headlight looks like a standard 7" one that's used on a ton of cars like original Mini's and pop up headlight MX-5's, amongst other things.

Right I have been thinking about the speedo and think that this would meet the test requirements. I have seen these for as little as £6.00 in the KPH version but unfortunately for me it seems to be quite a bit more expensive in the MPH version, but still not silly money.

I would simply need to remove the speedo cable from OEM clocks fitted to the bike and plug it into the after market one shown in the link. I am just wondering how the MPH clocks in the link would be calibrated?

For the headlight i have decided to go with changing the headlamp internals to correct the headlight aim.

Fingers crossed the link below does the job for £20 as its ordered now.

So the photo below is the current headlight which deflects light into oncoming traffic.

I aimed the light against the garge door and noticed that it seems to flick the light up a bit on the RHS which would obviously blind oncoming drivers.

Probably, but remember you will need to remove the kmh note on the clock face.

Any reason you can't just fit the MPH converter I linked earlier? Would just need to open the clock and stick "MPH" over the KPH then

This whole ordeal can be sorted by quick whacking on a MPH speedo disk... just take yours out, scan 1:1, change KMH to MPH, print and refit.
