Before I make another newbie error, like my previous Oxford security purchases – I want to check with you guys. Is this ok for a ground anchor?

If not, would you please recommend another? It’s got to be a stuff in wet concrete one and not a screw down one. And also, it can’t be brightly coloured as it’s sort of being hidden in a hedge. (Don’t ask!)

Depends what it's made from, could it resist a bolt cropper or angle grinder?
Also the hoop looks a bit small to me, would it take the chain you're going to use?

Want that one.

The eye-bolt ones have tight ringpieces steady but if you can't get a 16mm/19mm chain through it, you might as well not bother.

I've probably go with a Y anchor or one of the Pragmasis anchors.
Just make sure it can take upto a 16mm/19mm chain.

I put one of those in at weekend, it's big bastard under the surface. To answer your question, it really does depend how big a hole you dig!

I used one bag of cement, 1 sharp sand, 1 builders sand and 1 gravel. It worked out cheaper than postcrete and I did mix it a little stronger too! I used the builders sand in the last top mix to make it look nice.

I did cement in a washing line pole too though...

I did have some sand left, as intended, to place slabs down neatly...

Whilst mostly true, one of these solves that problem.

To OP: Chain through the bike, anti pinch pin with squire lock at the anchor end.

That's the stuff, if you don't want to be messing around with separate bags of sand and cement. As to sizing, I'd err on two bags for a few £££ difference and dig a large hole - it's the mass of cement that's going to keep it in place.

Are ground anchors just as effective if they are put into a brick wall or is it largely a waste of time?

I would suggest not as secure.

you can use some old bricks as filler if you dig too big a hole Thumbs Up I always end up with a slack hole every bloody time Laughing

How effective it'll be at making your house fall down should someone remove the ground anchor from the wall will depend on how important the wall you use is. Thumbs Up

I've used that stuff for fence posts, you tip sack in the hole around the post, add water as per the instructions and it sets perfectly. No mixing and no mess.

Thank you - but I don't think I'd get it in. I'm hiding the anchor under a holly and hawthorn hedge. Not sure I can get in there with a spade either actually. I might have to spend ages with a little trowel. Sad Nearly lost an eye yesterday wrapping the chain around the holly trunk!
