 Want that one.

The eye-bolt ones have tight ringpieces steady but if you can't get a 16mm/19mm chain through it, you might as well not bother.

I put one of those in at weekend, it's big bastard under the surface. To answer your question, it really does depend how big a hole you dig!

I used one bag of cement, 1 sharp sand, 1 builders sand and 1 gravel. It worked out cheaper than postcrete and I did mix it a little stronger too! I used the builders sand in the last top mix to make it look nice.

I did cement in a washing line pole too though...

I did have some sand left, as intended, to place slabs down neatly...

That's the stuff, if you don't want to be messing around with separate bags of sand and cement. As to sizing, I'd err on two bags for a few £££ difference and dig a large hole - it's the mass of cement that's going to keep it in place.

you can use some old bricks as filler if you dig too big a hole
I always end up with a slack hole every bloody time ____________________

I've used that stuff for fence posts, you tip sack in the hole around the post, add water as per the instructions and it sets perfectly. No mixing and no mess.

				| Thanks again guys. Now I either have to borrow a spade from someone that knows I have no garden and explain why I'm interfering with a council (?) hedge. Or go buy one.
 This biking malarkey is fun.

				| Thank you - but I don't think I'd get it in. I'm hiding the anchor under a holly and hawthorn hedge. Not sure I can get in there with a spade either actually. I might have to spend ages with a little trowel. Nearly lost an eye yesterday wrapping the chain around the holly trunk! | |
