Washer in down pipe, possibly.

Also factory standard DT's roll out of UK shops with the power band set to half.
If you have a friendly bike mechanic to hand, he will sort you out.

If not, www.dirtbikestore.com

Talk to them.

just get a crap 125 then pass your test, then spend the money you saved on a nicer 400/600/650 V-twin Laughing

i didnt do it this way but if my RS had been writting off i would haev brought/borrowed the cheapest thing to get around till pass test

buying a new DT125r would be a waste of money as you will only want a bigger bike as soon as you pass your test Thumbs Up

Theres lots of restrictions, cone in the exhaust, something in the end can is quite restrictive i'm told too. CDI is resricted. Also some sort of connector behind the headlight bulbs.

It would be easier to buy and older DT and de-res it, the new ones are a nightmare.

ok first things first the 05 dt125R and the dt125x do NOT have a washer cone or any other type of contraption in the exhaust, neither are there jets or power valves restricted.

They use an electronic pulse restrictor similar to that on the old 400's to deristrict it your gunna need.

soldering iron and solder
side cutters or sum type of wire strippers.
and about 20mins of your time Laughing

heres what u do.

1. take of the bolt either side of the headlight fairing and lower the fairing forward.

2. you should see a rubber boot with a bundle of wires in it.

3. in those wires there is a large block connector, if u take it apart u will notice that there is an extra wire in the male end that dosent go anywhere (no connecting wire in the other block),

4. cut it away from the block and strip it back the solder it to a black indicator wire and put your fairing back on.

JOB DONE!!!

any problems pm me, ive done a few of them Laughing

Cool, but why does the stock exhaust weigh so much, and why when fitting an aftermarket system does the motor seem to rev a lot more freely, and the powervalve seems more harsh when open?

Im getting a 05 DT125X, and ive been reading 'alot' of forums about de-restricting them. Theres loads of different ways said by different ppl, but each way differs for each model of bike (90's up to 00, then 00-03, then 03 and onwards 05 etc)

Now ive finaly found out what to do with a 05 model, -

Theres the restricter behind the headlight, its a greenblack wire and all you do is earth (connect) that to the bike frame. Then theres the exhaust, its much easyer buying a full DEP system for it as its lighter aswell as de-restricted. But if you cant get one, then the only restricter in the exhaust is in the front pipe, cut the front pipe in half where the welds are, remove the two rings inside it, then re-weld! THATS IT!

There nowt you can do to the CDI, the powervalve is done when you do the gree/black wire (as the 180deg turn thing dosent apply to 05 bikes) and the only thing left is just to do a plug chop to see if you do need a bigger jet (mainly with the DEP system) but ppl mostly leave the 240 in as that tends to be ok! Wink

Thanks, rgrds Adam!

Craig is right, the only reason they can still sell these old skool two smokes it because they carry a veritable armada of emissions gear, mainly in the exhaust. The exhaust isn't actually restricted par se, but it is overly restrictive. A dep pipe is just a can, so it has obvious advantages.

Yeh, i personally think the DEP (full) system is the best choice! As your removing a lot of weight aswell when you remove/replace the original exhaust! You can find the full DEP system at -

https://www.dirtbikestore.co.uk/acatalog/DirtBikeStore_com_DEP_Pipes_56.html

So with that fitted, and the restricter done (at the front behind the head-light) you can expect to get around 80-85mph out of it! Apart from these 'mods' im not aware of anything else to do with them Confused If anybody does know anything else, then do tell us!

Thanks, rgrds Adam!
